Marrying your cousin
« on: July 13, 2011, 07:33:07 pm »
I just thought of this the other day and how crazy it is that people actually marry there cousins and it is widely accepted in their families like india for example, i find this crazy and I just wonder how this is when they have kids ? Isnt this kinda incest and could result in birth defects ? What do u guys think about this

I had Lebanese friends in college a brother and two sisters whose parents were cousins.  I don't know if they were first cousins or not I forgot.  That' their culture.  I wouldn't marry my cousin on purpose certainly not a first second or third cousin but I have a huge family and it's possible I have a lot of relatives walking around that I don't know they are related to me unless we compared our family tree so it is possible but I wouldn't do it knowingly.

I myself am from a country where this practice USED to be widely accepted (people are gradually starting to look down upon it), and all I can say that it's a culture thing. But yes, a part of the reason people don't accept it anymore is because of the birth defect possibility.

I've known several people who have married their first cousins. I, personally, think it's odd, but then again, scientists are now finding evidence that suggests that everyone is related to one another (on some level).

That's a family tradition in West Virginia.
Have a wonderful day!
