When will americans say enough is enough
« on: July 13, 2011, 04:48:20 pm »
When will the American people say to our elected government that enough over seas spending is enough. How many of us are willing to write our elected officials or call their office and say enough is enough. If every voter would do this they would have to stop the spending.
When my ex was in the navy and I could not get a straight answer from the chain of command that I was suppose to go through I called the pentagon and got results from my inquiries. Some times it is better to start at the top and work out way down the ladder. If enough Americans would start questioning their elected officials  things would start changing especially in an election year.

I totally agree.  We have set back and watch them destroy our nation.  They have voted themselves raises while our employers say no, they have an retirement program that no company could afford, and then they demand to get free services from businesses.  The few that are trying to make a difference are being drowned out by the media.

Side note, this didn't get your spouse in trouble? I always hear how when spouses get involved then it really makes you as the military member look bad then you end up paying for it

That's generally true, depending upon the nature of the situation.  The OP didn't specify what her inquiry concerned however, specific deployment details during combat operations are usually classified - along with details concerning such operations, (for instance).  Whatever the exact situation her inquiries involved, bypassing the chain of command doesn't mean the the chain of command will bypass the military member, (crap flows downhill).
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

I have long been to the point of 'spending' in general is enough.  Spend some time watching the debt clock and you might agree with me.

Find some people to elect into office that can get this monstrosity spinning in the other direction (without them stealing even more money from me) and they will most likely get my votes.

The spending by our elected officials has been out of control for a very long time but must be stopped!  The USA is going bankrupt and we are being laughed at by other countries because we are stupid enough to keep giving them money when we are in such bad shape ourselves.  As far as electing an honest politician, I'm not sure that is possible.  They may go in thinking they will get things back in shape but before you know it they are running around with their hands out too.  I think all levels of elected politicians should have term limits and if Obama Care goes fully inforce, then I think all our elected officials should have to go with it too.  It is not right for them and large companies like McDonalds to receive exempt status from something they helped create.  I just think we are all doomed if we let our officials carry on with business-as-usual.

We are already trillions in debt and the government still continues to spend taxpayers $$$$$ like an open pocketbook.

How so?  What are they spending money on that they shouldn't?

Nearly impossible today.  Right after WWII was a prosperous time.  Income taxes were very high and cost of living was low. The government had money to build roads, schools, hospitals, and fund Police and Fire Depts. We could still afford to buy things because WE MADE THEM HERE!

We don't export much anymore. Nothing but building domestic goods and selling them to other countries can possibly lower a deficit. I don't believe spending behavior has changed in the government drastically, the money that they have to spend has changed though. ipods, cell phones, cable, two cars, sending kids to expensive college...  the cost of living has SOURED. People now demand lower taxes AND good schools. Just not possible.

WE NEED TO START BUILDING SH&T HERE ASAP!!!!

Good topic and certainly timely.  I really don't know how we are going to get out of the economic mess we are in.  For so long we have looked away and trusted that things were being run well.  I believe that it's because the fear of not knowing what to do about it caused us all to just hope it wasn't happening. It is so far past being able to ignore what is happening that many people are now looking for a way to get things back in control. The media drives our thinking to the point that watching the news has become a side show that just keeps us distracted.  Your suggestion to have more contact with local officials is a good start. Doing something is always better than doing nothing.

I think it is actually easy to do, it only requires a small measure of courage.  Cut all expenses at an equal percent until the clock starts spinning the other way.  It cannot get much easier than that.

do you really think it would work?  I believe the people in congress and the President work only for the people that contribute the big bucks to their elections.
We need to elect a everyday person from each town with a population of 50000 or less to go to washington and I know then that the little people would be heard and respected.  Those people in congress now do not really understand the realities of living on small incomes anbd making it work.

I see two solutions to government problems and one of them isn't nice.

1. Stop whining and become president yourself
2. Hope some higher power changes everything whether it be in the form of an invisible deity or super valuable resource and energy.

@ teflonfanatic - a new source of energy would be beneficial for the country and it's allies.  But it demands a great deal dedication one and two major funds to  support the research and development.  That being said a portion of the overseas budget would be more than enough!
