What do you actually mean by "traditional values"?   YOUR values?

Traditional values are those that our forefathers/mothers instilled in their offspring from generation to generation.  Most were based on the Ten Commandments and how they treated their fellow man.  Somewhere down the line of generations, traditional values have declined greatly.  Our nation's society has become one of a greedy, vile nature with enfaces on "self" and self-gain at the expense of others.  Those who can't see it are a part of the problem.  Of course, there is a much deeper reason but I don't want to turn this into a bickering thread by those who seek opportunity to bash values of others.
Have a wonderful day!

Our forefathers had slaves.    They OWNED people.   I don't think it's a bad thing to move away from their values.

You mean like what happened to the Native Americans?  The American way has always been every man for themselves.  Yeah, those values?

that one guy is right, if you are loosing your traditional values, do not generalize the rest of the population.

I think what's lost, is forgetting how it felt to be a kid.

""The children now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for
authority, they show disrespect to their elders.... They no longer
rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents,
chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their
legs, and are tyrants over their teachers."

 --- attributed to Socrates

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on
frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond
words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and
respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly
disrespectful and impatient of restraint"

-- Hesiod, 8th century BC

My kids are awesome, btw.

Not all forefathers owned slaves.  Remember the Civil War?

Values change as needs change and culture changes. I don't think we need to stick to old values for them to be right you just have to find what is important to you and go for it. Culture must change for values to change you can't blame a new generation for a lack of values when they were just following culture as the example.

The Civil War was not about slavery but states rights.  Weak argument there.

Doesn't change the fact that slaves were owned, and even the abolitionists did not view black people as equal citizens.  Those rights were fought for, just as with women, and just as with homosexuals today.  "Traditional" values are more concerned with sticking noses into other people's business rather than being a good person.  Values should not be based out of fear but out of altruism.

I think that people aren't losing traditional values so much, I think that they are just trying to make their own values, well at least that's what I am doing.
