For an old console game to work on a new console, the new console has to be backwards compatible but it is never possible for a new console game to work on previous consoles. For example, a Playstation 3 game will not work on either of the two previous Playstations.

Playstation has a new handheld system, Playstation Vita, and Nintendo has a new console, Nintendo Wii U. I am not sure of the release dates for either of these.

I think what you should do is study as much as you can before and after the interview. You're probably going to get asked questions from customers and some may be moms looking to buy games for their young kids. Are you familiar with the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) ratings?

Hmm, they might not hire you if you're not a gamer.  I guess it depends on the store, but if I were a manager at GameStop, I would want my employees to play video games.  Otherwise you will end up looking clueless when a customer asks for help!

Yes, the letter found in the corner of games which lets people know who the game is intended for.

I think you are right about that one. I worked in the electronics section of walmart for a while and was one of the few they let work back there because I am a gamer. I don't know how you could work that job and not know about what you are selling. I loved it because it allowed me to talk about games all day lol !

No it couldn't.  That would be like me trying to learn how to be a sports fanatic, which I have no interest in.  You can't fake these things, you actually have to be into them!!

Important Game Systems: PS3 (not backward compatible, blu-ray player), Xbox 360 (Kinect and Xbox live), Nintendo DS (two screens with stylus, portable), PSP (playstation portable)

Look up E3 to see the latest consoles for the next generation.

Go to sites like gamestop and gamefaqs to see the latest games and other info.

Honestly I wouldn't try getting a job in an area you are so unfamiliar with since there are millions of other people who actually know about video games and consoles who should get the job. The last thing I want in a gaming store is someone who can't tell me anything about the latest games. Lots of customers ask for advice or suggestions as well as technical issues once in awhile. It will be a pain for you and the customer if you can't keep up.
