For me they work...and they work very well. I try SoBe (different flavors) and Glaceau water with vitamins and minerals. I do not do sodas because they contain too much sugar which makes me fat. I have tried SoBe Tsunami. Look at the label. It contains so many minerals and vitamins that makes feel good every time I have it. Read the labels and see if you can have it because of your health conditions.

I think coffee in the morning gives enough of a jolt for ya.  I mistakenly had about 4 cups today and am too wired... time to drink plenty of water to hopefully battle the effects!  I would say coffee is more natural than an energy drink from a store shelf.

I don't know because I never tried one before. But they seem like they do work.

I don't think they are good for anyone that has problems with their heart. Way too much caffeine. They seem to work at first for people but then I think resistance is built up to the frinks and it takes more. I perfer to get my energy in a more natural way.

I used to drink energy drinks in college to help me stay awake but they never worked all that well.  Still felt tired and when I decided to go to bed, I would just lie not able to fall asleep and too tired to do anything else.  Wasn't worth drinking them, imo.

Sure they work very well, if your object is to shorten your life.

From what I understand the energy drinks work for about 5 hours and it's like drinking coffee.  But if you have any health issues it's better not do drink them and try different vitamin supplements.

Yes they work... There are a few things to look at, however, and different energy drinks give you that boost through different means (which, BTW has lead to incorrect stereotypes about all energy drinks). There are some kinds that have very little sugar / carbs (or even sugar free), so some of them do not use these carbs to provide the energy. Also, the amount of caffeine varies depending on brand / drink; some have even less caffeine than Mt. Dew (which has the most out of any soda pop at 54mg per 8oz., except for Jolt (if that's still around)). So again the argument that they just have loads of caffeine for its effect isn't always correct either (Red Bull for example has 74mg per 8.3oz can, whereas an 8oz. cup of coffee could have upwards of 100mg). Most energy drinks derive their effect from the added B Vitamins which are used as cofactors in metabolism. Thus the added B Vitamins aid in your body's processing / metabolizing your own energy reserves. Some drinks also have different extracts (like ginseng), although I'm not sure how these extracts effect the body.

As for the effect on your heart, I am unsure... Some B Vitamins are actually supposed to be good for your heart (niacin comes to mind), but I'm not sure if that includes all of the different B Vitamins found in energy drinks, nor do I know whether the amounts they put in those drinks are still considered good for your heart (most levels in the drinks are over 100% of your daily allowance). The carbs may play a factor, esp. if one's heart condition is related to diabetes, so low carb drinks are probably better than the sugared ones. Also, the caffeine may play a role, but if its under 100mg then it's probably about the same as coffee (coffee usually ranges from 75mg to 200mg, depending on preparation).

I've tried them, but don't like them.  They taste funny and are totally artificial.  I've heard bad things about them  Remember, what goes up must come down.  You'd be better off getting plenty of sleep, getting lots of natural fiber and eating small "meals" every few hours to keep your energy constant.  Personally I have better energy eating more fresh produce and less processed foods.  If you feel you need something once in a while ask your doctor what would be safe for you.  Take care. :)

I have tried a few Energy drinks and my favorite would be 5 Hour Energy. They taste great and they actually work like the label says. I have only heard of one person saying they didn't work and they drank it first think in the morning in stead of waiting to he needed the energy. :) Other than that, I take B12 vitamin and drink 4-6 cups of coffee a day and water the rest!

I've tried several energy drinks but for the most part just stick to coffee. If I do need the "little extra" I prefer the "5 Hour energy drink" it doesn't make me jumpy and it is only about a swallow and a half.

I've never had any good luck with them.  I never felt any more awake, but one time one made me feel so sick I had to lie down to avoid an anxiety attack.  I gave up after that.

Hi, my name is Terri Lee, in my opinion they work well, right now I use Rocketstar brand. Some of them only have 100 caloies, but energy drinks are expensive. For that reason, I am looking for an altrunitive way to get an energy boost. To bad I do not like coffee. I do drink tea though.

energy drinks have only ever made me sick
to my tummy. they're way too syrupy and sweet
for me, and have always worked the opposite!
instead of energizing me, they weigh me down
and make me feel sloppy... if that makes sense?
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]
