Ok so the toothbrush idea is amazing and I don't know why I didn't think of it before!

Continually apply chapstick, eventually your lips will become moisturized

Petroleum jelly in Vaseline is absolutely terrible - it is the same thing used to lubricate your car engine parts and is derived from crude oil.  I would never put Vaseline on my lips

Try these... "Earth to Body" Skin Care, and I picked up a tube of Emu Oil lip balm. Its fabulous!! The ingredients are emu oil, sweet almond oil, avacado oil, aloe vera, beeswax, lavender oil, tea tree oil, lime oil and lemon seed extract. That's it! No chemicals! It goes on VERY smoothly, no tugging or waxy feeling.

Underlying causes could be various..  Systemic Candida (yeast), kidney energy imbalances, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, excessive picking, etc...

One dermatologist said that after years of picking, the skin has started to grow back thicker as the body's natural way of protecting itself. She also said, however, that in time this will work itself out, as the body continuously heals and regenerates (but people will have to be patient).  And stop picking.

If anyone has ever taken excessive amounts of synthetic vitamin A or even Accutane for Acne, this will be an ongoing problem.  Unfortunately, I took that when I was younger, and never had dried lips before.  I'm sticking with holistic methods for everything from now on.

In addition to the treatment suggestions - you may also want to see if you are drinking enough water.  If your body is dehydrated, your lips are usually one of the first to dry out, so if you drink more water, they may not dry out as fast.

If that's not the source, excessive unprotected exposure to sun or windy conditions can overly dry out lips as well - if that's part of it - just take extra precautions to protect your lips in those conditions.

Good luck!

Ouch! I think that might burn a little bit, besides tasting like crap  ;D

Not sure that would be wise, what if you licked your lips at night without knowing??

I use the "chapstick" brand daily like a lip balm.  I usually never have a problem with chapped lips!   I put it on several times a day!

If you can find it were you live get aveeno medicated its got a blue lid on it.  Works fast to then just put on daily as needed.  Otherwise get the Burts bee's kind works good.  If really bad and hurting put Preperation H on them it sounds gross but takes pain and swelling out pulse makes them soft again.  This stuff is perfect for evey thing especially for burns.  I got burned with turkey juices one thanksgiving put it on it and not one blister and stopped the hurting and burnning fast.  I also used it on bed ridden mother n law to keep away bed sores works better than anything on market for bed sores.  Have good day   :D

My lips only get chapped when it gets really cold outside, and regular chapstik takes care of it.

Well for those of you who also have this problem I finally found my own solution.  It works miracles.  At night before I go to bed I put chapstick on.  When I'm sleeping it can't get rubbed off from talking/eating and those types of things so during the day since I let the chapstick works it's magic for so many hours at night I dont even use it during the day. :D
