biblical veiw on marriage
« on: April 17, 2011, 02:43:37 pm »
ok this is taken from the bible

You do realize that marriage in the beginning was not one man and one woman? That Adam and Eve weren't married the way we view marriage today--without a minister, they would have cohabited? Here are a few other examples of marriage in the Bible:

1. Gays were not allowed to marry.

2. Women were viewed as the property of their husbands.

3. Abraham and Sarah were half-siblings.

4. If your husband died before you had a son, your brother-in-law was obligated to fill his role. If he couldn't, it became your father-in-law's job. Take a moment to really imagine that. Is that something you would really want?

5. It was okay for your husband to have sex with your maid to solve infertility problems.

6. Marriage was between one man and as many women as he liked (er, or could afford) so he could have as many children as possible.

7. Adam and Eve technically cohabited: there is no mention of any wedding ceremony anywhere in the Bible. I *bet* Eve didn't even wear a white dress!

8. If you found out your wife wasn't a virgin, it was okay to stone her.

9. Women stayed at home with their mothers in law and made babies. They did not have fulfilling jobs or hobbies outside serving their husband and children.

10. Paul said marriage in general was bad, and you should only marry if you were completely and totally desperate for sex. What's love got to do with it? With him, nothing!

Anyone still think we should be following the biblical model?

Get ready for stretchy loopholes and arguments that say you have misinterpreted the bible, Travis. Because they're comin'.

Really? No, no it was not. We have this funny little 'rule' around the Forums. If you are going to in effect steal someone's work and post it here, then you need to give THEM credit for it. That was written by Laura Talley, Little Rock Atheism Examiner, back in 2009.

so to answer your question yes it does look familiar but not from there, is before you start accusing people to ask them to get facts straight. i didn’t intentially steal this article from this girl, a friend emailed it to me, i cut and pasted so i received as you seen it, i did however ask him if i could post it, he said ok so i didnt bother to give credit to him since he did say i could. so again get the fact straight on if it was intentional or not before you go accusing of stealing. yes i realize now i did and could have simply gave credit if made aware of it but instead of just being down out accused of purposely stealing it, if i new he had stolen it i would not have published it....but to get the record straight this article i posted was written by LAURA TALLEY

Putting all that aside, you haven't given anyone time to rebut some of your comments.  You sure you don't want to wait and see what others may say?  I was going to, but I'm waiting to make sure you are here!  :)

lol travis...don't take it so personally. I agree with your original post-- my comment was just a warning of what's to come from the bible humpers.

About the original subject, the Bible was written thousands of years ago.  Have our species evolved since then??  Of course we have as a whole, but I am sure there is someone in this world who still follows the list you presented.

Yup, that pretty much sums it up.   :)
