I've had it with Firefox today
« on: April 16, 2011, 11:55:11 am »
I use Firefox almost exclusively for the last few years becsause I hate IE which I am using now because Firefox keeps freezin my computer. It's happened about eight times today and I am sick of rebooting.

I upgraded to the new version last thinking it would stop the freezing but it didn't. I hate the new version so I switched back to the old version. I found a tutorial on how to stop it from freezing and disabled some add ons and did some other things but it didn't work.  Anyone have any other suggestions?

I don't really want to switch right now.  I've been a loyal FF user for years and I'd like to stick with them because but it's getting hard.

You can try opera, or Google Chrome.

Did you go on their website and check out their help topics? They might be working on a solution, and can give you some advice. I had the same problem, but when I upgraded Firefox worked fine.

I did and I disabled the add ons.  I ugraded last week thinking it would solve the problem but it didn't I hated FF4 so much that I switched back to the old version.

Google: "Clean my computer" and see what you find for free to clean and debug your computer. Once you download your program for free you will see the difference. Firefox (in my opinion) is the best browser.

Hopefully after you clean/debug your computer FF will work for you again.
I use FF almost exclusively.

Good luck -- I HATE computer troubles.

This is a loooonnngggg read, but it has not only a ton of tweaks to speed up Firefox, it gives you the background behind WHY you're doing the tweaks

http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_1.html

I was having the same problem - slow even with a clean cache, upgrading, removing some unwanted add-ons and extensions, etc, and it helped a bit.

I am glad to hear that it wasn't just me.  IE was the browser I used until it kept doing that, then went to firefox worked great for awhile and then the same thing.  I use msn and bing now.  Sorry you are having those problems.

I'm using FF4 because I had hoped it would be better than 3 but not so much.  It is faster loading but hangs up on me at various times during the day just like 3 did.  I like chrome a lot better except for the way it handles LastPass.  If it weren't for that and the FusionCash toolbar, I wouldn't use it at all.

I LOVE FF and don't want anything else. Had a freeze problem last week; I contacted them they are having problems in the transition from 3 to 4 or so I was told. Anyway I have a couple of free computer checks and ran them. So far so good. I think it pays to clean things up on your computer pretty regularly.

Guess I haven't done that in a while so I'm cleaning it now.  I had the freezing problem long before they came out with 4 and so have a lot of others so that's just an excuse.  When it would freeze before it would correct itself after a few minutes but lately it freezes everthing and I have to reboot.
