Do you think some jobs are as "REAL" as other jobs?
« on: March 23, 2011, 07:53:58 am »
I know we are all on here and possibly other sites earning money. But put that aside... if you met someone before you yourself started doing this type of "job" online, and that person was doing this... would you think they were just being lazy? Would you think that what they were doing by filling out surveys, or offers that they were "really working"? Personally, I think doing what we do here IS a job. When I am sitting there dreading filling out my next survey, knowing I am going to be typing, and filling stuff out for the next half hour, only to earn .50 - 1.00 for that WHOLE time... it sure feels like a JOB to me, LOL.

My other question is about other types of jobs. A person I know on messenger said something on this subject that really had me upset a little. We were talking about alternative jobs online and in the real world. The subject turned to jobs like phone sex operators, web cam performers, and etc... This person felt those were not really jobs. That they were not hard to do, and people should not get paid to do them. I do not feel this way. I have known women who got paid for performing on web cams, and I personally used to be a phone sex operator. I know first hand with that job, it was not easy. You DID have to work at it, to earn your pay. It was not an easy job, and you have to be REALLY creative, open minded, good at communicating, and willing to be bored for hours at a time, LOL. As for web cam performing, the friends I have known who did this... lets just say it is a lot of work. You also have to have thick skin, and be able to take and deal with a lot of BS, insults, and etc... And I am talking about for women who are even drop dead gorgeous, skinny, sexy and etc... even THOSE women get insults, and stuff. From what I can figure I think a lot of people use women like that to vent, or get onto after or because their girlfriend/wife pisses them off.

So where I stand is this... For all of those jobs, I think they are just as real as working behind a fast food counter, being a cashier, waitress, doing manual labor, or any other profession out there. I think if you have to do something, and commit to a period of time to do this, and you get paid for it, then regardless of what area it is in, it is a JOB.

So the question is, how do you think or feel about these ones mentioned? Also are there any other jobs that either you think are not "real" jobs, or that others you know think are not?

Get paid for this?

LOL, getting paid for what I do on here would just feel creepy to me.

Anyone want to lay odds on who is the most under achiever here? heh heh heh

There are plenty of ways to define a "job"... for example, the "job" of raising kids doesn't pay at all monetarily (it pays loads in terms of love and memories), but it is perhaps the most important job of all.  And, if you are at home and using your free time to do surveys and other money-making activities, you are making good use of your time.  Whether anyone considers it a "job" or not doesn't matter.  You're doing what's good for you.

I agree 100%

The core description of a "job" is doing something and then to be compensated for what you did. Being a parent IS a job, as it is something you have done, or are doing, and you ARE compensated on MANY levels. Compensation does not have to be by way of money, it can be love, appreciation, memories, recognition, and etc... Anyway I feel, and know first hand being a parent and raising a child IS a job, and it DOES pay well, LOL, plus well worth it.

No, I would not think they're lazy because I know for a fact it can be hard work; however, no, I don't consider Fusion Cash type sites to be "really working" or a "real job" for the one simple observation that partaking in these type of extra income activities is not doing squat for society.  Making money in these way provides no service to the rest of the world.

As for being a sex cam person or the like, yes I feel that is a "real job" because it is providing a service.  Basically it comes down to, are you really helping anyone with what you're doing?

And uh, society would fall apart if we didn't have cashiers, waitresses, etc.

I think that for some people this is a job. For me, I don't make enough to consider it a job. I definitely don't think that it's lazy to do a job like this; it seems that a lot of people do it just for extra cash, like stay at home moms or people that are unemployed and with the crappy job market, can't find a job for their skills.

I would only consider this website and other websites like this a job if you made enough money to support your self and/or your family. If you are on here making some extra cash and not making enough to pay bills this just becomes a hobby. For example: If you were doing wood working to build cabinets for yourself, then that would be a hobby. If you were selling those to customers then it would be a job. Until you reach the point of steady income form this, then it is just a hobby we all hope can eventually turn into a job.

I love this statement.  I am a stay-at-home Mom and I have always felt that actively being in the home especially between the ages of birth and 5 is important.

I think Manual jobs are "more real" then desk jobs, yet some desk jobs do ,ore work than labor jobs. However, Accounting could be more of a job than babysitting, even though taking care of a child is important.  :bunny:

I think the above statement is very wrong.  When a member clicks on emails, he/she is allowing companies to ADVERTISE their services/products.  People who do surveys are giving FEEDBACK to companies so they can become better.

Also, although some jobs such as a sex phone operator are REAL, they are not moral.

Advertising is everywhere, and more often than not, we don't have a choice but to have it in our faces.  While the feedback thing is true, filling out surveys is doing far less of a service to others than a real world job would.

That's your opinion.  Morality in my book is based on harm done to others, which being a sex phone operator doesn't involve.

Everything is a job somehow, if it's real or not does depend on the way you view it. If we wait for someone to classify what we do as a job before we accept it then that's going to be a long wait. This is a job, filling out surveys, coming on here everyday to click on stuff, it's dedication and devotion and at the end, you get paid for the work. So yea, I consider anything I pay full attention and devotion to as a job.
