Nuclear Power Plants

In light of the recent Nuclear Power plant failures due to the earthquakes in Japan.  Should the United States ever build another nuclear power plant?

Weren't they built on a geographically active active area for earthquakes?

The Middle East is obviously not going to be a stable source of oil and even if it were, there's pollution.  I don't think there is a viable alternative or Japan would have been producing cheap solar panels or whatever already and they wouldn't have had nuclear power plants on the island that has so many earthquakes.

This country has sent a man to the moon and back, I find it hard to believe they we cannot but our minds together and find a source for energy which does not create pollution and is not highly risky. Unfortunately the oil companies throw around their weight in the elections so we rely on oil. With regard to nuclear power plants specifically, I think chernobyl was worse although Japan's crisis is not over yet.

No more nuclear plants.  The potential for a disaster is just too high, not to mention we have no good way of dealing with the waste materials.

Nuclear power is clean and reliable.  A 9.0 earthquake is absolutely terrifying.  The tsunami is responsible for way more deaths than the nuclear power plant is ever going to be.  They probably shouldn't be built in an earthquake area but otherwise yes build them.
