High court rules for military funeral protesters

I don't follow the news much, but I happened to catch them talking about how the church protesters that were at the funeral of a gay soldier, were protected under the first amendment. Now this sets me off in two different ways.. first off, the protesters were supposedly christian, but they were holding signs saying "Thank God for dead soldiers," "You're Going to Hell," "God Hates the USA/Thank God for 9/11"    First off, I thought god loved everybody? Second.. it just shows how much christians are stuck in their own ways... that they cant have enough RESPECT for the family of the soldier... it just angers me to no end.

Ok, and second... THEY ARE PROTECTED BY THE FIRST AMENDMENT?!?!? WHAT??? NO, I don't believe that one bit. The goverment doesn't want to tell the church that it was wrong because that would make them seem bad in alot of christians eyes..

If I was there, I certainly wouldn't have taken that.

Despite who you are, you and your family deserve to have a peaceful funeral. That is the last they will ever see you. It shouldn't be ruined by people trying to force their religion and beliefs on you.

They're just idiots who get off on getting attention. Understand that this isn't some huge group-- it's primarily just 1 extended-family following a man that should be beheaded. Just be glad there's a lot of awesome and hilarious counter-protesters out there that show that most christians aren't horrific morons. My favorite one was the Comic con one last year-



My prognosis? If you aren't going to do the world a favor by going on a murderous rampage towards them, just don't give them any attention. The fact that the media follows them is disgusting enough.

I am a believer and I do not consider that group christian at all.  when YESHUA/JESUS walked this earth, he would never have done anything like that nor be a part of that. they are legalistic bigots and I do not feel even free speech gives us a right to torment anyone. they have set themselves up and judge and they will be judged by the only One who has that right to judge any of us... I would never wish to walk in their shoes and ashamed they make the claim. Believers are to walk as YESHUA/JESUS walked in love of all others. Hate the sin, but love the sinner.

Freedom of speech was never meant to support hateful peope who do such things as demonstrate at people's funeral. That's one time that a family needs all the support that the community can give them.

THE ONLY IDIOT here are those from Westboro Baptist Church who have set them selves up as judge. They tarnish America and bring shame to the Name of GOD... and GOD will take them down, sooner than later I hope. They are full of pride thinking they must defend GOD! What a joke they are.

I have personally attended a funeral where Westboro showed up. It was absolutely devastating for the family of the fallen soldier. These people are evil--they truly look evil too. Fortunately, friends of the family established an area to prevent them from getting close. Totally inappropriate use of free speech in my opinion.

I don't know what kind of "christians" they are, but they sure don't have God as their head.  They shame the name of God and genuine Christians.  Funerals are our last good-byes to our loved ones and should not have to put up with that kind of interference.  There should be some law to protect funerals as private situations without the likes of this group.

They come to CO a lot and I feel terrible for the soldiers families. The Patriot Guard Bikers around here are more than happy to block those jerks and do what they can (legally). I know a lot of people in my area are very thankful for them, they really don't get our thanks enough.

This is not a Christian group.  This does not show the love of Jesus. These people do not know the love of Christ.The love of Christ is not in them.

I spent 27 years in the US Air Force and retired a couple of years ago.  I worked as a healthcare professional at the US's major medical center in Landstuhl, Germany and aided in the treatment of over 50,000 (mostly young) warriors from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). 

Unfortunately, I was also responsible for relaying information and arranging transportation of casualties back to the states for burial.  It is very sad that these heroes gave their lives to defend the people who would then come and protest at their funerals.

I do have to agree that the First Amendment must be protected--it's an intricate part of America's make-up.  However, there is still a line that shouldn't be crossed and these protestors have stepped over it.  If anything, they should be protesting to the politicians in DC--after all, they make the policies.  Our military members simply due what they're told.  Protesting them, especially at their funerals, is just plain ignorant.

Fortunately the majority of US citizens show support for our military members and realize that these types of protestors are simply off their rockers.  Hopefully if we ignore them, they'll eventually go away... at least I hope so anyway.

People who chose to do things such as protesting a gay soldier's funeral do so because they need attention. If the media would just ignore them, perhaps they will stop. A lot of this protesting is so the protesters can be SEEN and HEARD. I would hope the media would have the common sense to just leave it alone. A lot of what is in the news is perpetuated by our need to know and see the news as it happens. There is a time and place for this. A soldier's funeral is not one of these times neither is Elizabeth's Taylor's funeral. There was talk that protesters would be there because of her activism with AIDS.

The God that I know, trust & worship wouldn't have His people doing what they are doing.  Yes, God will judge our country for the massive sins & injustices that are allowed to go on but He doesn't descriminate.
