What is Valentines's Day mean to you? Love, romance, loneliness, desperation?

I guess it doesn't really MEAN anything since I tell my boyfriend how much I love him everyday. I don't need a special day to show my feelings! I remember when I was 15, I went on my first date and it was on Valentine's day. Well the first half of the date went great... until I fell and broke my arm. Spent the rest of the date in the hospital, haha. So I guess when I think of Valentine's day... I think of that!

Valentine's Day is just a day set aside as a reminder to people to tell those they love that they love them.
We have Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc as reminders.

Many don't need reminders, but having a date on the calendar designated helps people to remember.

To me Valentine's Day is just  another "Hallmark" Holiday. If I love & cherish someone I don't need it put on my calendar to remind me to tell them how much they mean to me. (My family, boyfriend or whom ever)
I have been in a relationship for 4 years (living seperately) we rarely exchange gifts for any of the Holidays - just an agreement we made in the beginning. He has everything he needs & I am on a fixed income - so this works well for us. (He does bring me candy or flowers at random times)

Even cards are expensive anymore - so showing I care is cheaper & more meaningful.

Valentine's Day was my parent's anniversary (they eloped) and my son's birthday so it has always had a very special meaning for me beyond all the Hallmark stuff.

Valentines day is the day I spend all day signing love songs to people who think enough of their sweetheart to hire us. I sing in a barbershop quartet and we deliver singing valentines every year.

Kay7,

Valentines Day seems to have nice memories for you.  I guess what Valentine's Day means to mean is different now than when I was younger. When I was younger I would be so excited about it, now I just see it as another day to spend money. Telling someone one day out of the year that you care/love then is ridiculous. Guess I am a Valentine Day Grinch.

That's wonderful, oldbuddy!  Barbershop quartets seem to be shrinking now-a-days, so it's always neat to know of one out there still singing!  I was a vocal major in college - our chorale had a couple of quartets.  They were great!  One of them still sings today and still sounds great! :)

:cat:   As a teacher, Valentine's Day is really fun for the kids, as well as teachers.  It's a time to make cutsie things for the kids, have their parties, and watch their faces as they share their cards with their friends.

As a wife, I enjoy that one day to spoil my hubby a little extra. We look forward to that day to just go on a special "date" even if it's dinner, a movie, or getting ice cream at Dairy Queen. I spoil him all the time, but there is just something about that day that makes it a day to look forward to and enjoy! :)

 Valentines Day is a day to show your true Love just how much they mean to you.  I met my wonderful husband in the Summer of 2008 so this is our 3rd Valentines day ... 2nd as a married couple.... I want to make it so very special!!!  We have both been sick so I haven't been able to do any shopping.  I got him a nice card and going to make his favorite meal.... Chicken Parmesan and make him a molten lava cake for dessert.  I have had a bad luck with love all my life and now I have the Love of my life    I want him to know how special he is to me - every day.  I Thank God for him every day.

I love Valentine's Day, it will be very hard not to eat fatting food today.   My spouse love to buy me candy.   If I say I do not want the candy, his feelings will be hurt.   Over the years on Valentine's Day I will take the candy and give it to my kids.  ;)

I love Valentine's Day or any holiday for that matter!  Any excuse to rejoice in life and have an excuse to do something nice for someone else pleases me. I got flowers for my wife and chocolates, stuffed animal and a small little gift for each member of the family: bottle of wine for my wife, boxers with cupids on them for my son and a shirt with a heart on it for my daughter.  Tonight, after work, we will have a heart shaped pizza, red wine and red koolaid. I can hardly wait for St Patty's day!
