mouse traps
« on: February 03, 2011, 05:15:13 pm »
well, i was informed today that we had a little guy in one of the white plastic mouse traps. its one of those where u bait it from the inside from the back door flap and they have to crawl in it and they get trapped. well, mr./ms. mouse decided to get in it and we didnt hear they trap go off ..or it went off when we were gone. my man noticed the flap was up meaning there was a mouse caught. he waited til i got home to take it outside. well i took it outside and tried to let it go but when i opened the trap to let it go, i seen its tail and it's butt and i looked more closely and he was crushed. i felt so bad. i dont like killing a living thing. they are just trying to survive just like ne one of us. so, the mouse was stuck in there and all i could do was throw the whole trap away. mouse and all. i cant use the trap again. those are guaranteed to kill the mouse.. YEAH BUT only if u let it stay in there long enough. otherwise u can let the mouse go outside and use the trap again.

i'm from kentucky and lived out in the country,
and i don't know many people who didn't have mice!
they came in from the woods and the surrounding hayfields,
especially when they were freshly mowed. we had lots of
outside cats when i was younger and they seemed to keep
a pretty good eye on things, but i'd occasionally find some
pellets in the closet.

better than roaches! COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS, lol :P

You need to keep all potential food sources in containers that they can't get into or can't smell through. You should also try to figure out how they are getting in and fix it to where they can no longer do so. If it's a really bad problem then you'll likely have to have an exterminator take care of the ones you have now and then go and fix all openings that they are using to get inside. I believe moth *bleep* also turn them away because of the odor, or you could try those electronic insect/rodent repellents that you plug into the wall. They seem to work fairly well.

I agree! I can deal with a mouse every now and then. They aren't hard to catch. I use the old fashioned spring loaded snap traps. I hate the mess it makes but they work the best. If I let it go outside it would be right back in . . seems pointless.

it's just one or two mice here and there. we keep the traps out at all times coz u never know when there is a mouse. lately we caught a huge one again that got caught in the trap and killed it. this is the second BIG one so we think we have caught the parents. we thought we knew where they were coming in at coz we seen a hole above a outlet behind the oven but then we pulled the oven out and there was no hole.  WTF! :dontknow: so now we dont know where they are coming in at and the hole we did find we stuffed with steel wool. if they bite it and it gets into their system it kills them so we know they wont get through there. so where is the hole?  :dontknow: :crybaby2:

I feel a bit sorry for them, too.  But they are very dirty, so they have to go.

Yep, you have to kill them or they'll be right back inside if you let them go right outside your house. I can't handle mice. Its the hubby's job.

Did the same thing with steel wool before, and since that hole was blocked... they chewed themselves a fresh new one in the wall near the old one! They're persistent lil boogers! Main thing is to continue with traps, but move them around a bit every so often or add new ones because they do wise up and will avoid the traps. And keep all food sources secured. If you can find their general "pathway" they use to navigate your home, it'll lead you to their entrance. Good luck!

We tried those glue traps one time and it was just awful.  The poor little mouse couldn't get loose because he had glue all over him but he was alive and stuggling.  We let him go but I doubt that he survived.  They are really cute and fun in a cage but no so much running loose in he house.

We had that problem- we used a humane trap to catch the mice getting inside. When we found one in it, my bf took it outside and walked all the way down near the road to let it out and I'll be damned if the little guy wasn't right back in the trap that same night!
