Seatbelt
« on: February 02, 2011, 06:10:23 am »
I think it's silly that you get a ticket if you don't wear your seatbelt.  If people don't want to wear their seatbelt, that's their own problem and the only person they are hurting is themselves.  That's like saying you get a ticket if you don't wear a helmet when riding your bike or whatever.  I think it's just an excuse to get more money.

Really, in the long run, it was intended to save taxpayers and the states money....    The reason I say this is that seat belt laws were around in most states long before car/health insurance were required; if someone was in an accident who didn't have insurance, they were less likely to sustain major injuries if they were wearing their seatbelt.  It's the state (and eventually the taxpayers) who end up paying for uninsured people, so seatbelt laws were a way to reduce costs.

Now, I think once you're an adult you should choose whether you want to be safe or not, but small children definitely need the safety restraints....It's unfortunate that the people who don't put seat belts on themselves, also tend not to make their children wear them. (There are exceptions of course.)

Everybody knows seatbelt is used for our safety. I don't understand why many are still don't want it. That's the reason why they make it a law. It's just pretty simple if you don't like to wear seatbelt and violation ticket, don't drive or ride on the car.

When they come up wit the seatbelt law they said statistics said in most accidents with major injuries or death was because the person injured was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. Where I'm from most of the accidents I seen the person that lived in the accident was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car and that saved their life even though they suffered injuries from the ejection but, they survived the wreck when the other person trapped in the car died. Maybe I'm crazy but, I think I would rather have road rash than be stuck in squished metal like a sardine. It is the law where I live so, I usually wear it but, I still have feelings against them.

I've never understood why it is against the law to not wear a seatbelt in a car but the city buses have no seat belts and many people are forced to stand during the ride. There must be a safer way to provide public transportation.

It maybe silly for some, but seat belts have saved a lot of lives-including mine.  I do agree that for the most part, the city and state is out to make as much money as possible at a big cost to the taxpayer, but I always wear my seat belt and will continue to do so.

My bf doesn't like to wear seatbelts.  I'm tired of telling him to put it on if we get in an accident and he is hurt because of not using a seat belt oh well that his problem.  A friend of mine was killed a few years ago because she went through a windshield because she wasn't wearing a seatbelt.  It's your choice to wear it or not so you understand the consequences.  Just like the motorcycle thing.  In some states you must wear one some don't require it.  That's your choice.  If I get on a motorcycle I am wearing one.  If you don't want to and you bust your head open because you don't have one that's on you.

The law is the law.  Follow the law and click it or get ticketed.   :peace:

Seatbelt is for safety and we all have to abide by the laws.

:dontknow: i think that the seat belt law it great. because if the is an accident and someone is killed because they didnt have it on and a police officer let them get away then it will come back on the tax payers. How you ask? because it is just possible that if they was not wearing the seatbelt then they didnt have insurance and then that means more than likely they cant afford to pay for burial. so who pays for it, we do. no seatbelt is like saying its ok to drink and drive.

Personally I reach for the seatbelt right as I sit down, before I start my car. My dad would always start pulling out of the driveway and reach for his seatbelt at the same time which usually resulted in a few jerky turns before he got his belt on. I do think that if someone wants to drive with lessened safety that should be their choice, but they should not try to put on a belt while turning like my dad did, that could end badly.

I do not wear seatbelts.  They are good in some cases but others they are not.

I always wear my seat belt. There was an assembly at my school last year where the students were shown very disturbing pictures and videos. Almost all of them involved the person(s) in the car not wearing their seat belts. I do NOT want to be in one of those pictures or videos in the future, so I always put on my seat belt.
