How can someone know they are a good dad or father?

Ever sence I have had my children I just dont feel like I am a good father to them.  I dont have the feeling I am a bad father but not a good one.  It's like what I do for them just feels like I could do more.  What makes a father a good father?

 Take this from me and i don't even have a father never knew him, just being there ,existing is the best. Even if you are not able to be around them at all just the fact that they have someone who is owning up and saying im your father. Is something that will go on forever in their heart. Do what you can when you can and just be there for those lil ones or older ones . They are part of you and always will be. Just the fact that you are curious if your a good father is just saying you CARE!

I SO agree with Sarah.  Coming from someone who's father deserted his family when we were all very young, just being there is a great beginning.  I don't know how many nights I cried myself to sleep wondering why our father didn't love us.  Your children will know that you love them.

well there isnt any straight up answer.. only you have to find that for yourself...

i'm not a parent, but i've always thought that it would
be one of the hardest things to do - to be responsible
for the life of another human being, or two, or even three!
kids don't come with instructions, so how would you know
if you're doing it right? i can totally see where you're coming
from here.

but do they tell you they love you? do you tuck them into
bed, atleast sometimes? do you ever read a book with them?
do you ever get down on the floor and play pretend with them?
do you ever give them a piggy back ride?

if you've ever done even just ONE of those, you're a good
father. and i know that because my dad did...
