I have made it with my grandmother when I was younger. It is hard to eat. That why it is called peanut brittle, just be careful eating it. I can't find the recipe anymore or I would love to make some this Christmas. I have already baked tons of cookies and candy, this would be good to add.

My church has made peanut brittle for years and sold it to finance different projects.  If you make peanut brittle, don't make it on a cloudy or rainy day.  The humidity has to be low also.

the temperature while cooking needs to be perfect as well... if too high of a temp it may be too hard when it cools

Try checking your candy themometer to make sure the its working right,  boil some water and put the themometer in if it shows the right temp for boiling water it is working correctly. if it off adjust your candy settings.

I made it for years and years.  I can't even count how many batches I made.  I never used a candy thermometer.  I used a wooden spoon and added the butter after I got nice strings coming off the spoon.  I then knew how to take it off the stove when it got to be a certain color - then added the soda and peanuts.  I always used the spanish peanuts.  They are hard to find though.

I like to eat it when it's smushy but I've never made them before. You can try looking up recipes?

I use the recipe right off of the raw peanut bag.  In my opinion it's the best.

ouch, reading this post just makes my recent crown hurt! I got a crown done at the dentist about a month or two ago and i still cant eat any cold, hard, or chewy on that side of my mouth without serious "my tooth is going to pop out of my mouth" pain :BangHead: ... make holiday treats some much less tempting though!!
