I think it is a good idea that everyone should learn as many languages as possible.  I speak and understand very little Spanish and Greek.  Greek is easier for me to learn because my husband is Greek and this language is spoken at home.  My son also goes to Greek school to learn how to read, write and speak Greek and I'm learning from him as well.  French is another language that is spoken throughout Europe and one of my sister recently travel to France and learned just enough French to get by while she was there.  I also had a cousin who learn how to speak Japanese from being in WWII.  The world is getting smaller so knowledge of more than one language may become a necessity.

Feh, I said that 20 years ago when China began taking over the world.
It's going to happen, it is happening.
Might as well go with the flow before China enslaves us all.
One of the reasons Firefly is so awesome.

I think everyone should learn a new language or two, and it depends on the person and the values of that person and where that person will invest most of his life.

I learned Spanish in high school, and now that I have a brother-in-law from Columbia, I think I should brush up on it as he and my sister are raising their kids bilingual.

In college I took Russian, so when I'm chosen to live on the space station (hey - it can still happen, right?) - I want to know what they're saying behind my back!   ;D

Also, wanted to take a slavic language in hopes I could someday learn Slovak so I could attempt to speak to my grandma in her native language...but I don't think I'll have time for that, but will still like to learn that language.  Would also like to learn German too.

Spanish is the most practical, 2nd language to learn in this country although I wonder if English would be learned by hispanic immigrants if they never saw spanish all over the place. I've met people living here for 20 years from Mexico that can't speak any english!

I feel that English should be a must. But I also believe that if you are in another country then you should at least try to learn some of the native language.

Depends on where you live. I'm in Texas, so Spanish seems to make the most sense for me

I know a little French and my daughter knows Spanish and little French and she will learn Italian in the fall.  I think as long as you want know about another culture it makes people better people.
