what's the TOTAL you spend on christmas? $
« on: December 11, 2010, 04:33:56 pm »
we all know we spend here and there (and maybe everywhere)
to satisfy the need to give to our loved ones, especially kids,
a memorable christmas...

what is your estimated TOTAL you're spending on christmas
this year? this includes supplies to make homemade gifts, too!

i don't have kids, but my average total cost is about $300...
this includes everyone on my list, but i don't spend it all at once.
i usually try to buy all year and hit the sales!

I think I'm gonna spend about $70 on my boyfriend.. I spent $35 on my parents.. I'll spend about $15 on my sister and probably $10 on supplies for making stuff. I already have most supplies.

$130?

I dont think christmas is about how much we can spend. I think it is about what we have and what we can be thankful for. Yes we do spend for Santa but we have a limit, because it is not all about the gifts

I will spend nothing, I get free Walmart gift cards from the Internet and buy my gifts with them.

On immediate family: Wife $250.Daughter/Son $500. Mom/Dad/Sister $50.00, Niece $150.00, Stepbrother and wife $50.00, Brother in Law $50.00, Dog $25.00 so I guess it comes to about $1500.00 with miscellaneous other gifts that crop up.  Travel takes up another grand.

why does your wife get half of what your dauther and son get?
and wow-  that must be one special neice.

As for me I spend probably $70 on my son (he's 3 and it's a lot of random gifts), I bake  and make gifts for my co-workers/employees, my husband is about $100 if I can find the right thing to get him... he's hard to shop for.

The "C" in Christmas is for "Charity".  Everyone knows not to get me anything, but to make a donation to one of my favorite charities.  My money is there also during this season.  "Give to the Troops" is a good one, and your local woman's shelter is another.  I buy no gifts for anyone anymore, unless a donation is made in their name, and I send a card informing them of such.

Christmas has become commercialized, and a burden to spend for everyone.  Why?  Especially during this economy, it's hard for those without, to buy anything.  Where in the world do we get the mentality that everyone has to buy something for everyone else?

We are buying no Christmas gifts this year because everyone is laid off.  Christmas in our home is paying the mortgage and utilities, can not think of a better gift than keeping a roof over everyone's head and staying warm!!

I haven’t spent a dime. ;D I have to pay my bills first before I can consider anything else. It’s good that you have spread out the entire year to take advantage of good sales for your Christmas gifts. I agree Christmas shopping is highly overrated because businesses only care for profit and nothing else.

of course its not all about the gifts or how much
we can spend...  but we do. and how much we spend
on christmas does not define who we are

i don't feel selfish, greedy, or wrong for spending
money on christmas. i put a lot of thought into my
gifts and i make some of them too; its very easy to
waste money on the holidays, yes! but i try to stretch
my funds and they usually go far.

my parents always made a big deal out of christmas
and wrapping gifts and having them under the tree
just seems very traditional and homey to me. my
brother and i weren't spoiled throughout the year,
and they would remember those things that we
asked for come christmas...

if only we could wrap PEACE and put it under the tree  :peace:
