I'm not scared of the Dr. I don't go as often as I should. Now the Dentist is another story. :)

I'm all for preventative tests and things but when I don't have the money I will try to put some aside and go when I do. I make sure that I make all of my "yearly" check-ups between 12 and 18 months from my last visit. I have watched too many people die from cancers that could have been successfully treated had they been found earlier at a routine checkup for me to skip mine.

Like someone else said it's not necessarily the doctors but their damned prescription pads. I have told many doctors don't even bother writing that because I won't fill it. I always have doctors trying to give me pain pills that I don't need, and won't take anyway! I will take antibiotics AFTER a test has proven that what I have is bacterial and always take those as prescribed down to the very last one but pain pills are pretty much on the useless side for me. I didn't even use any refills for the pain pills given me after MAJOR surgery and pretty much laughed at them when they insisted that I needed an epidural and pain pills after when I had my son. No epidural and I didn't take any pain pills thanks....I had a baby, I didn't get hit by a truck or something. LOL

I have always been scared of needles! But mostly I am starting to dread the hospital more and more. My great grandpa quickly detiorated after being placed in the hospital for a minor thing. He was in amazing health before then. The same has recently happened with my husband's grandpa. The Veteran's Hospital definitely let him slip through the cracks. He has recovered somewhat after being moved to another facility, but the doctor's say much could have been avoided and quicker healing would be more possible if certain things had been taken care of in the beginning. Things like this scare me. Hospitals should be a place of healing and comfort. Maybe the problems of understaffing and underpay contribute to the lacklaster care?
