Music
« on: November 21, 2010, 09:49:35 pm »
Ok, so who can honestly say that they don't love music? Whether you play an instrument, wish you could, or just like to spend quality time with your iPod, we all mingle with music in some way shape or form on a daily basis. I personally LOVE music. It's always on the brain, seems like I'm never without a song playing in my head.
So, who else out there in the world of FushionCash feels like I do? What are your favorite genres, bands, songs, etc. Does anyone here play an instrument? Is anyone currently learning to play an instrument? What about composers, any of those here?

Another music nut here.  I play bass in 3 bands, dabble with keyboards and synths, and I'm also in a (comedic) rap group.  I'm trying to find some session players for a quick extreme metal/joke EP I want to do.  I wouldn't call myself a composer, but I do write music and lyrics.

Favorite genres are classic rock and prog rock.  Favorite bands, I'd have to say Led Zeppelin and Tool, with Pink Floyd, Yes, and King Crimson very close to the top as well.

That's pretty cool. Mind sharing more about the bands you are in, the comedy style rap, etc.? I'd love to hear some more detail about it all.

For me personally, I gravitate toward the styles of Rock & Metal. From music by bands like Roxette, Fleetwood Mac, Aerosmith, (etc.) to bands like Godsmack, Ra, Disturbed, (etc.) all the way to bands like Amorphis, Barren Earth, Sentenced, Swallow the Sun, (etc.)
To me, songs are more than just the lyrics, or just the music itself. Every different aspect speaks to me in some way or another. I think that's why I have such a wide range of musical tastes. (Yes, I even listen to country on occasion. And though I haven't listened to rap, hip-hop, r &b, etc. in quite some time I do still have some favorites from the days when I did.)

Funny I found this post while collecting new music online.  No matter what the situation is music always seems to help.  Even in the worst times, music has been there to help me heal.

My "real" band is kind of a heavy rock/art rock mix.  Very influenced by Tool and Iron Maiden.  We're actually in the studio recording our first real album.  It's a lot of fun and is sounding *really* good (in my ever-so-humble opinion.)

I've got 2 "fake" bands, ie, they're just for fun and we don't practice regularly.  One is an insane punk band, the other is straight-up rock.  We dress up like rednecks in that one and have lots of running gags.  People love that band because it's so over the top.

The rap group, is, well, white rap that's so bad it's good.  We've only had one real show, but people went nuts.

I've also got an extreme metal concept group, which is also a joke.  I want to put an EP out this winter and am talking to some friends/session players about getting it recorded.

I LOVE music too! I could basically listen to just about any kind of music other than techno. I have just never been able to get into it. My daughter and I will put on music sometimes, and just dance and have a ball together. I think it's a very special thing.

I play in a few cover bands playing guitar, keyboards, and singing. I want to find an original music group who is a bit more serious, preferably a R&B Country Rock band with great vocal harmonies. My favorite band is the Eagles but I like a wide variety of music.

I agree. When it comes to music, there is always going to something somewhere for everyone. Music speaks to us all, differently and the same.
The greatest thing about music, is that there is so much of it in the world today and it is infinite. But that's my thoughts...

Really? Cool! I'd love to be able play, but I just don't see that happening. I learned a song once when I was about 7.
How long have you been playing? Do you play just on your own, or do you play with a school or church group?

I feel as though music is the 'glue' that holds this elaborate puzzle we call Life, together. It [music] wakes us up & sets us to sleep, it keeps things moving in a way.

Nice!

Minds are like parachutes, they don't really work unless they're open. I feel as though anyone who can be so, well, close-minded when it comes to music and ONLY listen to a specific piece has no idea what they are missing, nor can they truly appreciate exactly what music is. Very glad to hear you too have a wide variety of interest in the WorldOfMusic.
Music is universal, and it brings people together. :)

Sounds interesting. Congrats on recording your first album! May I ask what the name of your band is, and if possible, the name of the debut album?
How about the names of your goof-off bands? They all sound fairly entertaining. And the rap group.... well, that just makes me laugh. I've heard good, bad, and.... Ugly "rap", but it was fun for the most part.
Ok, so let me get this right.... the extreme metal group is.... what, like a parody-type style of the genre itself, a particular band, or... ?? I'm a bit lost-ish...
