The Effects of Clinincal Depression on your Pocketbook
« on: November 18, 2010, 09:44:14 am »
Just wondering if any of our members have suffered from clinical depression and the effect that that has had on your pocketbook or back account? To make a very long story as short as possible,  I've suffered from the adult symptoms of clinical depression for 35 years. In 2007, thanks to a combination of the right medication and years of talk therapy, my symptoms are now completely controlled.  However my bank account/financial situation was in ruins.
The depression caused my decision making abilities to land in the toilet.  During that 35 years I majored in a subject in undergrad and grad school, I should not have majored in. I hopped from one job to the next because I wasn't happy with what I was doing.  When my first wife who really was the bread winner died in 1998, things went from bad to worse.  I charged on my credit cards because I couldn't work,  I was so depressed after she died, eventually I went bankrupt and now I'm currently on disability.
In 2007, things began to finally turn around.  My doctor found a medication that was right for me. My second wife is extremely supportive, she is working.  I'm still on disability but over the last few months I began to supplement my income by making money online based on a  plan I've made for myself.

Now it's your turn.  If any of you suffer from clinical depression, what effects has that had on your pocketbook and what if anything have you done about it or would like to do about it ?  Thanks in advance for sharing and God bless you.   :angel12:

I have also struggled with depression over the last 20 years. It has really effected my money flow because my insurance didn't cover a lot of my appointments and I wasn't the best mom that I wanted to be. I'm a single mom of 2 boys and it has been extremely hard to make ends meet. I know that I have seen people make money online and I know that somehow, someway that I can do it to. Someone said before to find a good mentor or someone that has actually been making money online. I thought I found someone that could help with getting me started in the right direction. My huge mistake. I have trouble trusting people (blame my ex) and I know that I can make money but haven't been successful at it and I am beginning to get depressed again because of this. I have been free of my depression for the last 12 years but the economy and needed money is taking a toll right now.

I've been depressed since I popped out of the womb, but I've somehow managed to make a living. Although I now have the worst part of the depression controlled with medication, the condition has affected my immune system to the point where I get sick very easily. My asthma has become so severe that I will soon be taking early retirement---not my original plan. I've always been aware of my vulnerability; so I've been careful to save & my finances are adequate. I haven't even tried to add up the losses over the years because that would be bad for my depression!! I just take one day at a time and look for solutions, even when I feel physically and emotionally lousy. I, too am blessed with a supportive spouse. Good luck to you in your recovery, and God Bless.

My parent suffers depression. It's very painful to see them suffer and can't help much beside be patient and loving.
Watch the documentary film "The Secret". It might help you a bit. When I'm down, I watch the film or just play it in the background helps.

I too have suffered and am still suffering from depression.  Mine started almost 32 years ago.  I am one of the lucky ones because I retired from the Army after 29 years.  Because of that, I am able to use the Veterans Affairs hospitals.  They pay for all of the drugs that keep me straight and I get to see my physologist once a week at no cost to me.  I feel sad for all of you that have to pay out of pocket, but if I was never in the Army, I would be like you as far as financial affairs go.  Bottom line:  I guess you do what you must do to keep your self straight.  Health is the most important thing we have.  Too bad I did not listen to my mom and dad when I was young.
