i would love to know some good crock pot recipes, too.
i have one that i've NEVER used! i need to get it out,
dust it off, and learn some new recipes...

the thing is, we're not big soup eaters besides chili.
surely there are other things besides soup you can
cook in a crock pot, right?

mine was a gift, so i'm not a "seasoned" crock pot
chef yet  :P
[ we all have a place in history. mine is in the clouds. ]

There's so much you can do! I'm still a bit of a newbie to cooking but I  my crock pot! I like being able to start dinner and not have to think about it lol There is a book out called Fix It and Forget It which is supposed to have a lot of recipes in it just for crock pots.

My fave thing to do is put a roast in (pork or beef) add a can of broth to it (i prefer beef broth!) and chopped onions and just let it cook. The meat falls apart like butter. Then I shred up the meat and use it in a pot pie....mmmmmm! You can also throw in your meat and some root veggies like potatoes, carrots, and celery and a can of, say, golden mushroom soup and let it cook for a tasty stew! *Tip* always put your veggies on top of the meat so they don't turn to complete mush!

I use my crockpot a lot.  Yesterday I put in a chuck steak, fingerling potatoes and carrotts and a can of mushroom soup.  I added a little bit of water.  Just let is cook and it is delicious.

Swiss steak does well - cut up a round steak, add cut up green pepper and onions and a can of diced tomatoes and let cook.

Do corned beef in the crockpot.  Add applejuice for the liquid.

I have done a whole chicken and it comes out like the whole cooked ones you get at the grocery store.

I will get back to this one as I have to get going.

I just made meatballs and tomato sauce in mine. Make normal meatballs as you would in the stove but put in the crock pot, add 1 large can of tomato sauce and then 1 can of diced or some other consistency of sauce you like and then top with a couple table spoons of sugar, salt/pepper, and italian herbs (oregano, basil) and let simmer for 4-5 hours.

My favorite meal in the crockpot is roast beef.

Just put a frozen roast in your crock pot.  Sprinkle with a package of dry onion soup mix.  Pour in some water.  Cook on Low.

We often put the roast in the night before and have it for noon lunch the next day.

You also can add potatoes and carrots :)

As far as the crockpot recipes, I have a great one.  Take cube steak(the steak that looks all beaten up  LOL)  put in the crock pot with onions, peppers, any seasoning you normally use and then take a pkg of brown gravy mix and mix with water then pour over the steak..  let it cook all day and it will be the most tender steak and gravy u will ever eat.

this sounds good!

I do a lot of varieties of BBQ chicken in my crock pot.  Today we had roast in the crock pot.  I also do beef stew, chicken & dumplings, chili, chicken soup, etc....

I have a "FIX IT N FORGET IT" cookbook -- one of my fav's

This is favorite of ours esp on cold days.  I take a bag of frozen precooked chicken chunks or bites throw in a bag of frozen precooked veggies, any kind your kids like, a large potato cut into bite sized pieces, a large family sized can of cream of chicken soup and a can of chicken broth stir cook on low if you start it early in the morning for about 6-8 hours on high if later in the morning for about 4-5 hours.  I stir it a couple of times throughout the day, so the food cooks evenly. add salt and pepper towards the end.  I serve in bowl and top it with a can biscuit, or a homemade one if you have the time to make it.  It's a make shift potpie.  It's yummy.

Another favorite.  I boil a bag of frozen dummpling style noodles and then drain.  In crock pot poor in a carton & a can of chicken broth and a large family size can of cream of chicken soup stir until blended add chopped up left over turkey or chicken.  Your can add some carrots or celery ( chopped) then add dumplings stir and cook on low til ready to serve.  I add pepper at the end and serve with a salad and maybe dinner rolls or crackers.  Freezes well and is a great left over for lunches.
