I think that both school and work should be done four days a week and people should be allowed to enjoy a three day weekend.  Switzerland does it and people have vacation time on top of that.  Less incidences of sick time, depression and alcoholism also bless that country...kind of funny how that correlates!  I think that we, as Americans, work far too hard and seem to be driven to keep going and going without taking time to smell the roses or enjoy the fruits of our labors.  When we die we won't be able to take the riches with us and nobody will enjoin a eulogy that remembers us for working so hard.

I personally love it..More time with my kids..And less stress for them..And I get a extra day to sleep in and have help around the house and stuff..So I really think it is a good idea ;D

This was an older thread I just seen from January but I figured I'd leave my opinion in it anyways lol  From what I've heard in this area (Northeastern Ohio) that schools want people to have a shorter summer vacation for MORE school not less.  To me it is ridiculous and if the 4 days a week thing happened they would add on summer school.  For me that would kill me because I only get to see my daughter in the summer and during her christmas vacation.  I spend money on plane tickets just to see her and if they added school in the summer I wouldn't be too happy at all.  On another note, they also send "homework" with her for summer vacation!  I was astonished when I first seen it all, it was as thick as a novel.  I never once had homework in the summer, that's the time kids should get to have fun and relax not sit and do school work.

In my opinion the 4 days a week of her at school would be good if they didn't add on more days in the summer for her to be there because then I would be flipping out.

If they were to change that we'd have to go to school longer, whether it be into summer vacation or stay longer everyday. I think it's fine how it is now.

I think that a four day school week and work week makes sense as long as you are covering the same amount of time, curriculum, and output.  A fifth day incorporates yet another day of commuting, preparing, re-introducing yourself to the previous day's task which is a lot of wasted time. Working extra hours for fewer days lets you stay focused on the project at hand and can even invade your private time by thinking about what it is that you did all day. Having a three day weekend allows a longer time to get refreshed and forget about what you did the previous week.  I work four 9 hour days and one four hour day with weekends open and absolutely love it.

We have had school 4 days a week for several years. Longer hours though. Hasn't hurt the kids. This is a very rural area and some buses run at least 45 miles one way. And with the cost of fuel they have too do it and then on top of that of course  the cost of maintaing the schools and heatin and cooling. It can get pretty hot here and also very cld in the winter, so the schoold had to do something. It seems to be working out.

Are you kidding me? No!  They need to go seven days a week, our kids are behind enough as it is.

no, because if they did that kids would have shorter summer breaks and probably no spring break...kids have to go to school 182 days a year period.  i remember we got out around may 30 to june 1st and didnt go back till after labor day

It ought to be increased to six days a week however, same weekly total hours.  Kids may not like that but, I bet several parents would.
One can lead a horse to water however, if one holds the horse's head under, that horse will drown.

Nope! We turned out fine when we went 5 full days, so what one more. Plus the kids will just get in trouble if they don't have anything else to do :sad1:
