Good morning!

Hope you don't have too bad of a day Julie.  There weather here is really hot.  Thankfully it's not humid yet so hope you don't suffer today.  On the run this morning as I have a bit of homework to finish up before school and this is an early day.  Bob will be watching Amya today so she'll be here in less than an hour.

Hugs to you.  BTW, how is Veronica doing now?

Here is something I posted on Facebook yesterday about our adventures in Charlottesville, VA on Tuesday.  On top of this, a poor little old man (in his 80s ?) took a nose-dive after tripping on the sidewalk at the restaurant.  He was sitting on a chair on the sidewalk with a *bleep* nose and a couple of the policemen around him.  It was a good thing there were some already there.

"Exciting day in Charlottesville yesterday. Spent the day there with three of my favorite people: my husband, my daughter, and my grandson. Went to Best Buy, lunch at ChicFilA, so Jacob could play in the playroom. Saw 3 of C'ville's finest and a detective "interviewing" a young man in the parking lot, then taking pictures of an object on the hood of the car - looked like copper piping (maybe from Lowe's across the street??), then place the man in handcuffs. Then they let him have a cigarette (guess the guy was nervous!). I thought I was watching TV. :)"

Loulizlee,

Wow...poor little old guy taking a nose dive.  Heartbreaking.

Charlottesville area is beautiful.  I haven't been down there in a couple of years but hope to go back soon.  Wonder if that guy was stealing copper?  It's worth a lot of money for recycling these days and people have been stealing it from old buildings, even churches.

Goodness, I feel bad for the old man tripping and falling like that.  I hope he's okay.  I haven't been there in awhile, but liked it the last time we went through and stopped there.  It's a shame people steal like they do.  It's nice to see you today!

Kim,

I had a lot typed out, hit "Post" and the internet went out.  So I lost all of that.  How frustrating.

Yesterday was too busy and long for my usual puny day after shots.  I had to sub, plus go to my pulmonologist.  She said if hubby hadn't put the small air cond. unit in our bedroom for me to hide away until our air cond is fixed, that she was looking to put me in the hospital because of my flare up.  She put me on prednizone for inflammation, with strict instructions to stay in that hide away unless absolutely necessary, until the air cond. is fixed.  They finally found the part for it and it has to be shipped down.  I also didn't make it on here because of subbing, pulmonologist, and when I did, I was so fatigued I fell asleep, missed supper, and they made me sit up to take my meds, and then went right back out.

Veronica is okay, but in a lot of pain from the RA and Osteo.  They think the Osteo has moved down into her back now and has to be tested on that.  Bless her heart, it doesn't end.  I'm so glad she and I are close - we encourage and support each other.

I'm glad you have an early day.  Hope you enjoy it with Bob and Amya!  How is she doing?  I haven't heard about her in awhile.  I hope you are doing okay.

Talk to you later,

Julie   :cat:

Charlottesville is one of my favorite towns.  It is beautiful in the Spring.  We are fortunate to have the University of Virginia.  I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the town is so well kept.  The main problem I have is getting lost.  As long as I have lived in the area, I can get lost easily.  It has to do with, I think, the layout of the town (built around the mountain) and the fact that so many of the streets have been "add-ons."  You can be on a street and suddenly it will turn into something else, seemingly without any rhyme or reason.

Yes, it was sad to see the elderly man fall in the parking lot.  I have had my share of bad falls, and they wreak havoc on my arthritis.  He seemed to be okay, though, even with the *bleep* nose.  He was being assisted by the policemen that were there already, and was talking and seemed to be coherent.

And, yes, crime has hit everywhere, even Charlottesville.  :(   Copper pipes and wire seem to be one of the newer items that are being stolen in ever-growing amounts.  And, believe it or not, I just saw something on the news the other day that large bottles of Tide are on the growing list of things that are being stolen.  Tide is fairly expensive, I guess, and is easy to sell of the street for a couple of dollars, the news item said.  It is so sad.

Louizilee,

My grand-daughter will be attending Virginia Tech in the fall.  That's in Blacksburg VA and without googling a map I'm not sure how far from Charlottesville.  She will be studying engineering there.  They live in Beckley, WV so it's not too awful far from home.

Her dad was in Charlottesville quite a bit receiving treatment at the University hospital when he had his second bout of Hodgkin's disease which was when I got to know the area somewhat.

As to crime...it seems to run paralel with the economy.  People are desperate.

The only other time I have been in your area was when I was a kid.  I had a friend that attended Staunton Military School and his parents took us sightseeing at some of the local historical sites.  We went to Monticello, which I thought was beautiful.  I want to go back again someday.

Have a good Sunday.

Julie,

It's so frustrating when you lose a page after you've written a long message.  Ouch.

I wondered how you were doing after shots and with the air out.  As usual I pray for you and your health.

Amya is fine.  She likes spending the day with her Grandpa.  She is taking swimming lessons at the high school so she is anxious for us to get the pool open.  We had this initial bout of really warm weather but this is NW PA and you typically don't open the pool until after Memorial Day.

Her daddy is supposed to be coming to get her swing set and sandbox and move it to the new apartment but didn't show up last week as promised so we'll probably have to move it for her.  :)

I planted some morning glories yesterday and am hoping to plant some other flowers/seeds today and possibly get Bob to start my area where I'll grow some tomatoes. The only other vegetable I'll grow is my garlic, which I put in last fall.  There just isn't enough flat space in our yard for a garden, other than in front of the house, as the entire yard from the pool and deck out is all uphill.  And I do mean uphill!

Homework, laundry and other business type paperwork today.  I have to start the application process and essay for the internship with the Surgeon General's office.  My cousin, who lives in Baltimore said I could stay with her and commute for about 15 dollars a day if I get awarded the position.

More later. Stay in bed girlfriend and get better.

Kim

Hi Kim,

We had some bad storms come through Friday and Saturday, and then today the weather is about 20 degrees cooler with a really nice breeze.  So I joined the land of the living today and love the windows open with the cool weather.  It may not be like that tomorrow, but I am enjoying it today.

I would like to plant a flower garden along the front of the house, but not sure if I can do it just yet.  I have a picture in my mind of what I want it to look like.  That's neat you are planting tomatoes and garlic.  I think a herb garden would be nice sometimes.

I hope you make it with the Surgeon General's office - that would be a really neat experience!  Are you serious? Is it $15 a day to commute?  Wow!  That is steep, isn't it?  How long would the internship be?  And that's sweet of your cousin to offer you staying with her.  I'll keep praying and keeping my fingers crossed!

I heard back from a very well known group of attorneys and they said they would take my SSDI case!  I should receive the paperwork from them tomorrow to fill out and send right back.  They sounded very positive and assuring about this.  I hope this works.

I know you are busy today.  Take some "Kim" time, though, if only for a few minutes!

{{Hugs}}

Kim,

Speaking of small world - I went to business school almost 50 years ago in Staunton; I met my husband there.  Another nice little town, home of the Statler Brothers.  I went back recently, though, and I don't recognize a lot of the town.
Blacksburg is, I would say, probably about 100 - 125 miles from Charlottesville (without looking it up).

Internship for the Surgeon General's office!!  Wow - how exciting.  Do you have any posts about that?  I keep meaning to go back and read more of the older posts to get to know you guys better.  Maybe I can do that this week.

Have a great week, everyone.

Juanita,

The internship is being offered through the Surgeon Generals office to people who are members of HOSA, Health Occupations Students of America, of which I am a member.  Medical Assistants are required to do 150 hours per two semesters of internship and this would be the same amount of hours.  I'm hoping it would be 40 hours a week and I'd complete it in less than 3 weeks but I'm not sure.  You have to apply and write an essay as to why you think you'd be a good choice.

I'm 58 years old so I don't know if they would choose me over a younger person who is just starting out in the field but I guess it won't hurt to try.  If I would get awarded the internship I can stay with my cousin in Baltimore and commute because everything is at your own expense.  I just figured it would be a great opportunity but highly unlikely I'd get the position.

Julie,

I have a few herbs growing, mint, basil and chives but they are just in pots.  I too would like to have a herb garden.  I keep telling myself to get right on that but it takes time and money which I don't always have.  I have a flower box on the front window and last year I filled it with vinca, choleas and petunias.  I'm not sure what I'm going to do this year.  I want something cheap that will weather the west facing evening heat we get.  I had such good luck with the morning glories out there last year that I've replaned more but this time in a pot on the porch, hoping it will trail the railing.  I also have two areas with ????? (brain fart) another vining plant...the name will come to me after I hit the post button!

My entire back bank is full of seedum and I've been grabbing it and starting it in various other planters for around the rock garden and I've been putting soil in some of the dead tree trunks and starting seedum in those.  I want to try putting a few marigold seeds in the trunks too and see if they will take off.  Last year a woman gave me some moonflower seeds.  They are a white flower and only bloom on rainy, gray days or toward evening.  I'm going to try putting them in the back yard along the tree line.  I saved a bunch of seeds from the pink cone flowers and black eyed susans too that I'm going to try to plant throughout the yard in various spots.

We have an old set of monkey bars that were Bob's kids when they were little.  They are rusted but cemented into the ground and will be a chore to remove.  I have four packages of morning glories in various colors, white, mixed, purple and sort of a red color.  I am going to plant one package on each of the corners of the bars and see what happens.  I'm hoping it will make a trellis of some sort.

I'm glad you heard from the lawyers.  Get on that quickly and keep on them to move it!

We had a pretty good weekend.  We went Friday night to purchase more beer making supplies for Bob (I bought him a kit for Christmas and it's become an obsession), and we went to see Hunger Games and then to dinner at Texas Roadhouse.  Saturday we hit a couple of yard/flea market sales and then yesterday we went for a fairly long bike ride yesterday and I'm sore from the efforts.  Bob had bought me a new bike for Christmas but my feet wouldn't quite reach the ground so we went and bought another one and he took mine.

Yike's I've rattled on far too long.  Hope today is a better day for you.

Talk later ladies.

Hi Kim,

Your yard should end up looking really nice from everything you are doing and planning to do.  I hope the trailing works with the monkey bars.  I love wisteria, so they would take off good around that.  We have a kind of mound near our back woods - I'm going to see if I can coax some to grow on and around it.  That's one thing I've missed since moving up here - in the winter cold at night the pods pop and it sounds like little gun shots going on in succession.  The first year we heard that out in the backyard (before moving) we were all struck dumb - not knowing what was going on outside.  We didn't know if someone was out back, or people shooting guns, and we had the kids stay in a different room.  The popping noise would hit the sliding glass door.  Roddy and Randal went out the front to sneak around back - and finally figured out what was happening.  We all had a great laugh over that.  When we sold the house before coming up here, we forewarned them about it - since they wanted to keep up with it.

I'm feeling better than last week - those shots are gone through.  I'm feeling the usual stuff from being on steroids, but they seem to be helping with the inflammation/pain of my lower back and knee a little.  I'm only on them for 2 more days.

It sounds like you had fun biking with Bob.  That's great to do that.  I wouldn't be able to get Roddy to do that anymore.  Was Hunger Games any good?  I know a lot of people have gone to see it but haven't heard anything said about it.

Hope your week has started well for you.  We'll see you tomorrow!

Julie  :)
