Hi blogger!  I just turned 55 last week and I am currently laid-off.  I have been an educator most of my life and truly have enjoyed it.  I was shocked about the lay-offs.  I wish I would have been more frugal in the past, yet, there is nothing like the present.  Medical Assisting is one of those highly employable skills, so the best to you!  I just joined Fusion Cash in the hopes of adding to my monthly income.  Do you have any suggestions on how I can make this profitable and fun?
Thanks! Peace56
Hi and welcome!  Congrats for joining FC and using your first post in here!!  I'm an educator, also, and lost my job at the end of May (this past school year.)  I really understand the shock of it.  I even signed up as a sub, but all of us on the "outside" were told that they are only using parapros and aides as subs first before calling outside subs.  This is their way of cutting back in their budget.  Ouch!  That's hurts a lot of people here who were subbing on a regular basis.  I sure hope something works out for you.  I'm still looking at different sites, similar to this one, that can help earn some extra money.  This one is, by far, is the best, at least for me!  I hope you'll keep us posted on how you are doing.  :)

Kim,

What a beautiful morning here!  It's in the 40s, sunny, breezy, and gorgeous blue sky!  We have our windows open - it's so nice listening to the birds all around us just chirping away.  My daughter surprised me before she left for work with a pot of coffee ready for me when I got up.  That was really nice.  I've managed to catch up on several "little" chores this morning and need to spruce up some more when they all go back to work.  They usually nap between bus runs since they have to get up so early.  So I didn't want to wake them with the cleaning.  Our pastor's mom and dad are coming this afternoon for an early supper and visit.  She's feeling pretty good at the moment and wanted to get out some.  I feel good that they chose coming here!

That's neat about the apartment for your son and his GF.  It sounds great!  I'm glad he'll be happier there where he's got more "city" close by.  Being raised in the city myself, I can truly understand being in the country and having to travel a couple of hours to go somewhere fun and have more to choose from.  I really hope things work out good for them as they settle in.

The four of your kids you spoke of, are these a combination of yours and Bob's or all yours?  I'm not sure how many children you have.  You're right - you've got lots of attractions to visit, kayaking and outdoors activities to look forward to.  I would love that, myself!  We have friends in Michigan - one year we were able to go during the winter.  I had the best time snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and even got to visit a museum.  I am so ready to go back now, lol!

I hope your hand keeps doing better.  That would be rough to have carpal, much less arthritis.  My daughter's wrists and hands are badly arthritic - her fingers are looking bad.  They take x-rays regular and are hoping the Enbrel will slow it down.  I want her to be able to do more things than she does.  She's such a trooper, though.  She just keeps on keeping on and pushes through the pain.  And she's only 23.  :(

Hope school went well today.  Hope there's not too much homework.  How are you enjoying the quiet when you get home?  I imagine it's different!  Talk to you later!

Julie,

We are still having rain and it's rather chilly but this weekend is supposed to be beautiful.  I'm going to try to meet up with a GF on Friday to go to a craft show in my home town.  Saturday I want to get the house more organized and Sunday I think his daughter is racing so I'll probably grab my books and head to the track.

That's sweet about the pastor's mom wanting to come visit you.  And also that your daughter had your coffee waiting for you.  I always appreciate it when people do little things for me too.  That's terrible that your daughter is suffering the problems she is at such a young age!  I can't think of the name of the type of arthritis she might have but I know it can be debilitating.

I raised four children.  I had two of my own, married and raised his daughter from age 5 and then we had our son.  Bob had one daughter to his first marriage, remarried and she had two (a boy and girl) that he raised and they had a daughter.  Between us we have 5 biological and 3 step.  I don't see my step, although she is going to visit my youngest daughter this weekend, he rarely sees his youngest either but the other kids are fairly close.

We were just talking last night about ice skating this coming winter.  When we were kids growing up we always skated at an outdoor rink in our hometown.  I haven't been skating since I was in my late 30's, nor has he, but there is an indoor rink fairly close by and we are going to try to get out on the ice soon.  I told him I would bring my ice skating cane with me.  We sure don't want to fall and break a hip at our age.  We both used to be pretty good skaters back in the day but that ice gets harder as you get older.

I kind of miss the city myself.  The thing I think I miss the most is going to plays.  There was a group from Indy that was very good, Broadway material, and I'd go to a dinner theatre with a friend.  We also had Broadway touring shows and I had attended many of those.  I could still by going to Pittsburgh or Youngstown but that entails quite a drive where before they were right at my fingertips.

The SD hasn't gotten all of her things out yet.  Each room is full still of something and some rooms are still totally packed.  The breezeway, garage and carport are impassable.  I don't know what her plan is yet but have determined that as time allows I'm moving those things that are blocking the flow of chi around here and making my own space among the debris again.   :BangHead: :bs: :dontknow: ??? I need :peace: and to get things in this house back to normal again.

Her cat is still here and no provisions for food were made.  I have several cans of food I've been feeding her but no idea when she plans on picking her up.  I can't keep the cat as he is allergic so she can't come in the house and I don't have the heart to keep a cat outside during our brutal winters.  I can't afford vet bills either and any outdoor animal needs to be wormed and have preventative shots that I don't want to budget for another animal.  As soon as my son gets settled he is taking one of the dogs too.  I am trying to simplify my life and another animal doesn't fit my plans.

I have some homework to finish up this morning and a quiz to study for too so off I go.

Hi Kim,

You've got some fun things planned for the weekend.  I guess the house organizing could go for fun or not, lol.  Hope you find some neat things at the craft show.  My daughter and I are decorating the outside this week for fall - she and her dad went to get a bale of hay tonight.  Between the two of us, we have some cute things - scarecrows, pumpkins, etc.  That's neat about going to see his daughter's racing.

My daughter has rheumatoid arthritis (as a child, though, it was JRA - Juvenile Rheum. Arth..)  Hers moves around, like her wrists, neck, back, jaw, feet, legs.  It's always in her hands, though.  Also, she was diagnosed recently in her elbows with osteo-arthritis (sorry if spelled wrong.)  She is currently working on her application for SSDI.

Thanks for clarifying about your children.  I just wasn't sure how it went!  Put altogether, that is a nice-sized extended family!!

I'm not too good at it, but I do love ice skating.  There is an indoor rink where we lived in Jacksonville that is set up for ice skating.  I hug the side the best I can, lol, and work on venturing out a little on my own.  I just love the atmosphere and feeling of it.  Yes, that ice does get harder the older we get!!

SD should make arrangements for her cat, but I guess it doesn't always work that way.  A few years ago, at Christmas, I gave kittens (tortoise-shell) to my younger son and my DIL (when she was living with us.)  They had seen these two sister kittens and really liked them.  DIL loved hers for about 6 months and then just decided one day she didn't want her.  When they moved out she didn't take her.  At that time I wasn't sure how the kittens would be if separated, so I kept DIL's.  She in now my little buddy and follows me everywhere in the house.  I think DIL would have mistreated her anyway because of her temper.  Even so, SD should communicate with you about her cat.

Okay, end of novella!!  Good luck with your tests/quizzes this week!

Julie  :)

Julie,

That is so sad about your daughter.  She must be a real trooper.  I hope the SSI comes through.  She certainly deserves it.  It's hard to keep going when you are dealing with constant pain.  I guess though that moving is the best thing for her.  If she would give in she'd stiffen up and suffer even more.

No word from SD.  I moved some stuff from the living room yesterday and piled it in the man cave.  I wanted to get my living room reorganized.  When I'm doing this type of cleaning it actually feels good and not a burden.  I like to clean and see things come together again.

The weather started clearing a bit yesterday.  We actually saw some sun for the first time in about two weeks.

I haven't started my fall decorating yet.  Thought about it yesterday but never did get to it.  Maybe today.  I don't put out much, just a couple of wreaths and some baby pumpkin faces I made years ago at ceramic classes.  I have four and each are making different faces.  One is sucking on a pacifier as it sleeps.  I'll leave them up through Thanksgiving as they aren't totally related to Halloween.  We live so far in the country that we don't get any trick or treaters so I don't feel as though I have to put much of the scarey business stuff out.

I think Bob is taking the day off to finish the painting on the tall part of the overhang on the front of the house.  At least from the road it will appear the house is finished.

Other than an hour or two at night I won't get much done now until Saturday afternoon.  Of course it all depends on how much homework I have too.

Make your day a great one.  TTYL,

Kim  :dog:

Hi Kim,

Our weather is still nice today.  However, between now and this weekend, we have the nor'easter coming through which will change things.  I thought I saw that up north would have it, too.  Have you heard anything for your way?

I watched a friend's 1 year old for a few hours this afternoon.  Her hubby is out of town and she's a bus driver.  So I told my daughter to let her know I would watch him.  She's so sweet and has 3 children (2 are in middle school.)  Her 1 year old has had a couple of brain surgeries, with more to come (something the drs. have to drain) and so they are particular where he stays.  It's calm here, of course, so I'm helping tomorrow, too.  He's a little man and so sweet.  He took a long nap after playing in the box of toys I have for my grands.

When we lived in the city, we always took our kids trick-or-treating. We would mainly do our neighborhood and then always took them around the grandparents afterwards.  Wow, what a change up here in the country.  The kids up here don't trick-or-treat much at all, if any.  Mainly the parents all meet on Main Street and then they all go on hay rides through special lanes and roads.  The first year we moved up here, we had bought several bags of candy. Ha Ha!  No one showed and we didn't know what to think.  We asked the neighbors and they told us.  Hay rides are fun, but trick-or-treating is fun, too!  I guess they don't miss what they have never done, right?

I'm not going to church tonight.  I got my flu shot Friday, and then Monday I started feeling yucky.  Today, I just don't have the strength to do what needs to be done tonight, plus I'm hoarse after a lot of coughing.  I've learned my lesson about pushing when I can't push anymore.  I feel bad about not going, but have to listen to what my system is telling me.

Your little pumpkins sound adorable!  I bet they are cute as buttons.  That's neat that you made them - just makes them more special!

Have a great night and a super Thursday!

Julie  :)

Julie,

We had beautiful weather yesterday.  We got around to some additional painting and repairing outside and I tore down the tomato plants.  There were only a few tomatoes left on the vines and I put those on the patio to ripen but cleaned everything else up.

Watching the child for your friends was a very kind gesture.  It seems you enjoy kids a lot!

Sorry you aren't feeling well again.  Yes you do need to listen to your body though and take the time to rest when it tells you to.

I came home with a headache yesterday.  I took some meds, drank a couple of glasses of water and a cup of coffee and laid down for about 20 minutes before we started outside.  I really think it was dehydration because I will get a horrible headache if I don't drink enough water.  The water system needed backflushing and it wasn't tasting real good so I had been avoiding drinking water.

The SD came by last night and got a car load of stuff.  It appears she is going to finish up the moving little by little.  I would guess there is still an entire Uhaul worth of things left so if she finishes car load by car load this is going to take a while.

I'm hoping to get more of the outside stuff done this weekend.  I'd like to get the covers for the pool on, possibly winterize the motor home and the rest of the painting done around the breezeway and front door.  We still have to clean out an area of the garage to get the deck furniture in too.

Bob got his schedule yesterday for this month and they are sending him to Palm Beach the last week of October.  Now starts the winter tour it seems.  He is getting a racer ready for a big race in Dubai.  Wouldn't it be something if they sent him there as the mechanic?

Off for some homework this morning and I have laundry in the basement begging for my attention and a load of dishes taunting me when I walk through the kitchen.  Where is that maid when you need her?

Kim,

Hope your headache is gone today.  If I don't nip mine quick when it first comes, then here comes the migraine.  Usually taking something and drinking coffee or a little coke helps - I guess the caffeine is what helps me at first.

The little fella is so sweet and for a year old (almost 2), he is so good.  We played with cars, horses, blocks, and fish toys.  He loves my daughter's dog to pieces, and is really gentle with her.  He came this morning and will come this afternoon.  The schools are out tomorrow and Monday or she would have needed me then, too.  Tomorrow, however, I have to get my shots, which is probably one reason my system is down some - it needs the perk again.

I'm glad that SD at least came and got a carload of things - I was wondering if she would "forget" about that for awhile longer.  It would be better, though, to get it all at once - courtesy to you and Bob.

You've given yourself plenty to do this weekend, lol.  But it does look nice and feels great to have those things accomplished.  I'm glad I'm able to do a little more each day than before.  The cooler weather helps and taking those shots gets a lot of credit, too (once I get past the puny weekends, right?)

Hey that's neat about Palm Beach!  You won't happen to be off from school then?  That would be a long, but neat trip!  I would even try and figure out a way to meet you as you pass through somewhere nearby!!  Dubai would be something neat, for sure!

Lol, I agree about the maid!  Lately, my family has been going through so much tea, that when they leave in the mornings, there is always one of the two pitchers sitting empty in the sink haunting me.  I don't drink it much because of the sugar intake, but the couple of times I made a pitcher full for them, it's like, "Oh good, we don't have to worry about it anymore."  There will be one in the fridge and yet they're "whining" that they are running out of tea, lol.  :binkybaby:  That's okay - I don't mind spoiling them a little.   8)  I get payback, hee hee - they take turns bringing me a french vanilla coffee (sans the sugar with only the creamer) - so we all win!

Our neighbors are thoroughly enjoying their new home.  They have asked us, however, if we can keep an eye out when they are both gone - I can't blame them for still worrying that something will happen while they are gone.

Well, everyone is back home from their routes, so off I go to talk with them.  I'm in shock that I actually got on here this early - it's usually late afternoon or early evening before I usually get on!  Have a nice day and evening!  Yay, it's Friday tomorrow!

Julie,

It's Friday!!!! I'm only going to be in classes until 11:30 then I'm leaving for craft day.  I'm meeting my son and girlfriend in the morning then back home.

I got one coat of paint on the front door frame yesterday and powerwashed the windows by the deck.  Hopefully Saturday I can get the second coat of paint on the front and the primer on all of the windows in the back then paint them Sunday.

SD got a few more things last night.  We almost have the mancave back but the biggest piles are in the breezeway, basement, garage and carport.  I'm going to start cleaning the garage so I'm pulling everything out of there and putting in one of her other piles.  I have to get the garage clean so we can get the deck furniture in for the winter.

Palm Beach won't be possible for me.  I have school the entire time.  I don't get a break now until around Thanksgiving ..... except maybe one Monday....I think but don't have my calendar in front of me.

Now that several months have passed do you think the allergy shots are helping you?

Hey Kim,

After my shots this morning, I went to my father-in-law's and his wife's for lunch and a nice little visit.  I try to visit family or friends each time for a couple of hours before heading back.  It's hard to believe my father-in-law is 82.  He looks like he could pass for 72!

Since being on the shots for right at a year, there are pros and cons.  The main thing I've noticed is that the bronchitis doesn't come near as often as it was.  My breathing is better than it was - still shallow and still lower peak flows, but the main reason I've had to use the inhaler or nebulizer lately is for the cough and congestion.  I'm not having near as much fatigue as I was, but have to give credit for some of that to all of the iron, B12, and D, that I'm on, too.  I still cannot handle the heat - very little tolerance to that.  The main con is having to go through those puny weekends after the shots.  But who knows, maybe that will ease up, too.

My problem right now is being able to afford everything I'm on.  Even with insurance, I'm having a difficult time right now because of not having a job.  The schools still aren't calling for outside subs.  I spoke with someone from SSDI this week and was told that my application has gone through the medical evaluation and was sent to a different medical board to make sure of the decision that was made under the medical evaluation.  He said I should get something in 2 to 3 weeks giving their decision.  There's no telling what that means...

That's great that you are getting your painting done and getting things ready for the winter.  It will be even better if SD keeps working on steadily getting her things out.

I didn't figure Palm Beach would be a go, but it did sound neat just to think about it!

I hope you had a great craft afternoon.  Have a nice visit with your son and his GF; as well as a great weekend.

My wife and I own a small engine repair
shop near Knoxville, Tn. We also own a
Hbb that we developed.

It is new and we can't wait to be like Buddy!

Our hobbies are playing on the computer
as well as making money on the computer.

I'm afraid school would be out of the
question for us, it would take to much time.
We would rather work from home and
have more free time to do other things.

Hi and welcome!  It's great to see more people coming in!  That is a neat thing you and your wife are doing with developing your own Hbb, as long as earning cash through sites like these.  I'm not too computer literate - but do have a son that is.  Maybe he could help me with something like this!  Good luck with it and hope to see you both again!  :)
