Labs are great for kids. I got a yellow lab when I was a kid for Christmas he had a bow on him and was soo tiny! They are such affectionate caring dogs. It kills me when parents get pitbulls and have kids. Then they end up getting attacked. Get a nice family dog if you have kids people!

Well honestly depending on the type of person you are pitbulls are great dogs to have around kids & may i say once again that "depending on the type of person you are".

If ur the type of person to just leave a infant/toddler or any kid by them self, who doesnt know any better then yes u will have a problem on your hands with any dog not just a pitbull. Myself in my family's household have 5 pitbulls and at this moment at this very moment at least 2 or 3 of the 5 is around kids 24/7 while the others share there equal time.

Sorry to go off topic but its make's me very sad when i hear people talk down on breeds like that including pitbulls especially. Im sure if your 1 year old child bit someone they would euthanize him/her too  ::)

Lol to the poster above me! It's common sense, and it figures that you have a pitbull.. You will be one of those people who are soo surprised when they out of the blue viciously attack you or your kids (hope it doesn't happen) it is in their nature. Please do not buy attack dogs as a family pet.

But its funny how people like you never have a reply & continue to ride the bandwagon with the same statements Learn to appreciate the things in life & not look for bad or good .Personally i've lost a brother & the only things left for me to look at is his daughter & pitbull Which the 2 are closer than anything you've ever seen, Its funny though, when u poodle or w/e dog u own bites a kid into pieces u dont hear that on the news why because its not expected well expect it from ANY DOG.A little training & love/compasion never hurts & for u there would never be a word called StereoType if there wasnt a meaning. So lol to u my friend.

I guess I'm wondering why you'd say figures you have a pitbull, they are new to our forum, you should be nicer.  On that note I had a pitbull w/an ex and he was awesome, it is all about environment and the owners.  If you beat the dog he will lash out, if you treat it with tons of love they're just big babies.

As for the original question on the post, if the weather inclines, I know Saint Bernards are big but they are great with kids. Remember the smaller the dog the more hyper they will be.  I'd check your local animal shelters, they always have great pets that had unfortunate situations.  Maybe take your oldest so they can see the responsibility of picking and taking care of a dog

LOL it's funny how people get mad at actual facts. I have a lab sweetie, and you never saw him on the news because he has never bit us or anyone else. Don't take your aggression out on me because your dog is unpredictable. It is seriously pointless to go back and forth with someone who is set in their ignorant mindset.

You don't have to beat the pitbull for them to lash out, they do that randomly. I said "figures" you have a pitbull because she said she does! People are too much!

Just because your lab has never bitten anyone doesn't mean no labs have ever bitten anyone, they can be aggressive as well.  You are profiling whether you like to admit it or not.  She didn't say her pits have ever bitten anyone so looks like your lab and her pit have something in common.

I never said NO lab has ever bit someone. I simply said mine never has. You can call it profiling, if you'd like. I like to call it statistics.

Aren't you judging me by saying you can tell what type of woman I am?

Also labrador's passes the ATTS (American Temperament Test Society) 92% of the time While APBT passes 86% of the time.Is there Really much that u can say + one more thing i will add because even urself said its pointless to go back and forth, but the same article u posted for everyone to view states very boldly
THE OWNERs ARE THE PROBLEM....

& no not judging sorry because i dont usually talk like this but it is a very high priority topic as pitbulls are being treated wrong everyday, but yes u are right in some ways but are not in the ones matter...
