I just did a speech on this today.  I recycle light bulbs, batteries, plastic, cans, bottles, and paper.  If we had a curbside recycling pickup program where I live, I would recycle a LOT more.
:dontknow: PLEASE tell me how do you recycle a light bulb?? ALso where and how do you recycle batteries??

Thanks aLot.

If you use Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs (CFLs) it is imperative that you recycle them and not throw them in your trash.  While CFLs are very energy efficient, they are also quite toxic.  Most contain lead and mercury.  Sending these to landfills where they will get crushed ultimately is releasing these toxins into the environment.  That is why the emergence of LED bulbs is huge.  Not only are they more efficient and last even longer than CFLs, but they are much less toxic.

To find a place close to you where you can recycle CFLs and batteries, check out this site: http://earth911.com/

I wonder how many here really recycle at home? I just read that 59% Americans recycle at home and I wonder how truthful is this percentage

yes i recycle and where i live it is mandatory or they will not pick up your garbage.

I feel recycling is very important and it's too bad more americans are not forced to do so. In fact, states should require it and if a household does not divide up the trash then it will not be picked up.

I agree with you but what irritates me is that in some cities you have to pay extra money to recycle and you sometimes have to purchase your own recycle bins.  I think the city needs to supply the bins, one for plastics, cans, paper and glass then they should do the pick up free.  They can make money to be put back into the cities coffers with what they get for recycling.  It's a win win.

We recycle in Fort Worth, if we don't our trash will overflow because the trash pick up is once a week.  :peace:
