How much do you pay for your utilities?!
« on: October 26, 2010, 11:09:21 am »
Though I was renting some apartments, but never have to pay my own utilities.
Just wondering how much does everyone pay for their utilities?! and for how many people?!
Also, if there is any way to cut down the utility bill?!

It really is going to vary based on where you live, how much heating/cooling you have to do, what kind of home comfort system you have, what method is used to power water heaters, ranges, dryers, etc.  A person who lives in Minnesota with an older furnace who uses gas is going to pay much more in gas utilities in the winter than someone further south with a new furnace, due to much colder weather and a less efficient unit.

Utilities vary from city to city.  Here in Euless, Texas I am paying about $.12 per kilowat hour for electric and about $1.00 per 1000 gallons of water, and I think it is about $2.27 per cubic foot for gas.  As for keeping the bills down.  Well if ya don't use em ya don't pay for them.

I think since the government wants to come in and regulate everything they should regulate how much they can charge for utilities.

This the issue I had when i moved to new apartment. First thing see for the filter if it is full take it out and replace. Second in winter check with candle if there are any air vents in windows and seal them properly. and more importantly try to use a fan in summer so that you need not switch on AC for longer time. After these improvements I found the difference may be you will also

Make sure you do your research on energy suppliers where you live. I have Ambit and I'm only paying 9 cents per kwh in Big Spring TX. Energy efficient light bulbs are amazing and tend to last forever and also, you probably already know this but, light colored curtains help keep your house cooler and thus easier on your AC. We were renting an old house that had a cracking foundation and therefore some cracks in the doorways and windows so our electricity bill was rediculously high. In a little 900 sq foot house we paid out almost 300 in electricity in the summer. So make sure whatever you get is inspected. If you have a dishwasher lots of time they're put better use to the water than washing by hand, atleast in my experience.

I live in Texas. Family of three, my husband, 10 yr old son and myself. Three bedroom house with A/C - we pay from $350 - $550 that includes water, electricity, cable, internet, land line phone, cell phone. I think it's reasonable. many people I know pay $500 - $600 only for electricity. It depends on how good you know how to administer your electronic devices LOL. Electricity bill between $100 - $250. Approved Home Efficient.

Too much.  Every month its a different price point mostly higher.  I really am sick of being ripped off every month by the utilities, while giving themselves millions of dollars as bonuses.
