The Benefits of Knitting--Really!

Over the summer, I joined the knitting circle at Gilda's Club.  Not only did I learn a new skill, I also found that knitting relaxes and calms me down.  So I wanted to research the benefits of knitting and here is what I found:  For an individual knitting, the heart rate can drop down to eleven beats per minute and the blood pressure rate can drop as well.  The repetitive action of knitting can bring the mind and body to a "relaxation response" state similar to what people experience with prayer, yoga and meditation which I consider as "being in the zone."  In addition, knitting as well as crocheting can help build creativity and improve math skills.
