I don't even like 2go c my Doctor 4yearly visits. Their harassing me 2get me 2come in but I don't feel ready 2go. They better not cut off my meds if I don't go in. It's been several years since I've gotten a flu shot. I stopped getting flu shots when I've come of age. I refuse 2get it b/c when I did, it never failed I got sick. Since I've stopped, I haven't been ill since. I don't usually take meds unless I'm at death doors. I think the main reason why these superbugs w/resistance strains 2meds is b/c we've become wimps. Pop a pill 4every little fever, sniffy nose. The body doesn't have the chance 2process the strain b/4 it's killed off by meds. B4 our bodies can recognize it & build immunity 4that strain. So, should that same strain come back, your body has no defense. Pretty soon we'll need 2b placed in a protective bubble b/c our bodies that don't exercise it's ability 2build immunity against foreign invaders, will lose it or be less effective. Our over protection 4every little virus will make it so that we will be cing more SUPER BUG(S) CASES IN THE FUTURE w/NO CURE. Us or lose it.

I have VA benefits, and I normally get a letter from them telling me the schedule for the shots. I was just saying yesterday, that I haven't received the letter yet. I guess I better check on that myself.  :dontknow:

I went to the doctor to day for blood work and a check up. And then suprise they gave me a flu shoot. I don't mine shots but it sure did make my arm sore and I felt a little funny afterward. As of now I'm feeling ok. How many of FC people got your flu shoot yet? I do hope it keeps me and my husband both from getting the flu. He had his shot last week.

I have not had my flu shot yet.   Got sick about the time they started giving them and had to put it off.  I am well now so going in a few days to get mine.  If I don't take it I stay sick all winter.

There is a difference between bacterial illnesses and viral illnesses.  Vaccines are given for viral illnesses and antibiotics for bacterial.  The issue with superbugs stems from a doctor giving an antibiotic for a viral illness that needs to run its course.  Once you've contracted the flu, antibiotics are not going to cure it.  My daughter recently had hand, foot, and mouth disease, and we couldn't give her an antibiotic for it because it was an illness whose symptoms we needed to treat while the virus ran its course.  Many problems where antibiotics are concerned stem from the advertising done and the basic assumption that when we're sick and go to the doctor, we think we need a prescription to make us better when that is not the way these things should work.  I am a major supporter of all scheduled vaccines, including the flu shot, and a supporter of knowing your illnesses and your body.

For all those who say they got sick despite getting flu shots in the past, just remember this:  The seasonal flu vaccines only have three strains of viruses in them, meaning you're only going to build antibodies/immunity to those three strains should you get a shot.  If there is some other strain of virus going around, or even possibly if a strain included in the shot has already mutated, there's a good chance you're still going to get sick.  Also, the shot doesn't give you instant immunity.  It's possible to get sick before your body builds the antibodies after getting the shot.

I've had only one in my life and I broke out in hives because they were made from chicken embryos and I can't sleep on feather pillows because of allergies. Took some time for the ER to figure that out.

I have gotten one for the past two years at work. I had signed up this year to get one (they needed a head count this year) and quit that job and started a new one before I could get it. THEN they were offering one at my new job, but I was too late for the sign up...sooooo, I missed it this year. I don't want to make a special trip to get one at a drug store or the doctor's office. I am too lazy, and besides, I have gotten sick the last two years ANYWAY! It is real easy for me to catch whatever! Guess I will take some EMERGEN-C. :sad1:

I greatly dislike shots ever since I was little  :(  So I just endure the days of the running nose symptom. On another note, it's kinda funny when I get the common cold first at school which seems a little weird.
