Vaccinations do they cause autism?
« on: October 14, 2010, 12:33:24 pm »
I do not agree with the claim. Autism runs in my family and according to my great grandmother she says her mother had the same symptoms as my three year old. I do not think its vaccinations I think its genetics.

I have to agree with you...people are saying that it's a growing problem and it MUST be because of vaccinations! Well, my kids have all been getting their regular vaccines and no trouble. My sister refuses to get her kids vaccinated but her oldest shows some signs of being Autistic...I think that the only reason it seems to be a "growing" problem is because doctors are only just starting to recognize Autism as it's own unique problem instead of lumping it in with other illnesses. The biggest example in my mind is of the couple who has 6 kids and all of them are Autistic, when statistically only 1 in 150 kids has it? This just smacks of genetics to me, it just hasn't been linked yet.

There is no direct scientific evidence that vaccinations cause autism.

Every vaccine has side effects, but those don't happen in every case.  Plus, the diseases these vaccines prevent have worse side effects than the vaccine themselves.

I think Jenny McCarthy has done a disservice to humanity by trying to claim that vaccines gave her son autism, and now claiming that she's cured his autism.  My husband and I have a friend whose daughter is four months younger than ours, but we won't allow our child to play with hers.  Why?  Our friend will not vaccinate her child until she's school age, and I refuse to take the risk until we're sure our daughter is protected.

Claims like McCarthy's and people who refuse to vaccinate like our friend are the main reasons why diseases like pertussis are being seen again.   :angry7:

No they do not cause autism. I really think people get mixed up on that. If you have any questions about autism you can contact my uncle Roger *bleep*. http://teacch.com/trainings He is an expert on autism.

I don't think vaccines cause autism. I actually think it's ridiculous that so many kids are being diagnosed with autism. Yes, some of them have it, but I think doctors see a few symptoms of autism and immediately prescribe medication for it. They even said on the news that a large amount of kids have been misdiagnosed with autism. I make sure my kids have all their vaccinations. How bad would a person feel if they didn't get his or her child immunized and then the child died because of not being immunized? I just think this is horrible that somebody actually let the idea out that vaccines cause autism with no evidence. I watched a show on the guy that supposedly linked autism and vaccines together, but all he did was find one little thing and then did not continue his research to make sure. It just shows how gullible some people are.

I'm glad to see so many people in agreement! Personally, I'd be more devastated if my child died of a disease that was easily avoidable than having to live with a mental disorder. Did anyone else see the Law&Order:SVU about the woman who refused to vaccinate her kid and another woman's baby died because of it? I think people are entitled to their beliefs but if it endangers the life of your child or others children?  :angry7:
