Really...is there nothing better to complain about?

Sesame Street yanked a Katy Perry duet with Elmo because of her "revealing clothing."  What do you think?

Personally, I'm a fan of Katy Perry, and although her music is of the more "mature audience" material, I am not a fan of censorship.  I believe parents should spend more time helping children understand the things they see rather than banning it from their view.

Considering children 1-5 aren't really obsessed with nice *bleep* yet, I don't think it's a major concern at all. Maybe this isn't the best example, but it's like-

"ZOMG HE MADE REFERENCES TO HIS RATED R MOVIES!!! BAN IT!"
"No! Don't! This is hilariously amazing!"

I watched the clip as well...the age group that will be watching that segment is probably what 1-7 years old...they're not going to be noticing her *bleep*. Katy Perry often wears revealing outfits, but that looked legitimately like a "dress-up" outfit which is what the skit called for. It wasn't like she had a pushup bra on or it was so revealing that her chest kept drawing your attention like outfits performers wear to awards shows and such...honestly these days people look for anything to complain about and often overanalyze things. Their kids would've probably been looking at elmo.

Yup, the kids ARE probably looking at Elmo.  Katy has taken some real bashing by the media lately and it's been pretty biased.  I've seen less clothes on figure skaters.

Check out Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, or Sleeping Beauty's upper attire at Disneyland.  Yeah, that's strictly an adult place ::)

LOL, Annella!  Have you checked out Princess Tiana's attire?  She's Claudia's favorite of the moment along with "Seeping Booty" as she calls Aurora...

Well two wrongs don't make a right. Whatever else other industries or media geared towards children should NOT be showing things such a person in revealing clothes. If I take my child to wal mart and they see someone walking around indescently, I cannot control that. However, wal mart is not responsible for the appearance of their shoppers. This is not a valid comparison. It be more like a wal mart employ had her *bleep* half hanging out.

Kids NEED censorship, by their parents discretion AND by media GEARED towards children. Figure skating...not geared towards children, not a child's program. I'm sorry but I think it's a legitimate complaint. Also, if they are continuing to show the clip on the news, I don't know about anyone else but I don't let my children watch the news.

There are things they just don't need to know about, and Katy Perry hugging elmo with her *bleep* half exposed is disturbing (IMO)

I don't have a TV so never saw the clip.  I saw a photo on Yahoo News, and she looked like she was dressed up like a Bride.  Her top was sheer, but went all the way up to her neck.  The picture I saw showed nothing that bad.  Maybe the lighting was different or something.  The sheerness looked almost opaque.

Yes, we do need to protect our children, and I do understand the concern, but the thread was because the media was making such a big deal about her.  There was another media item last week or so about how she went back to her old school, and participated in an impromptu convo. with her old high school flame while on stage.  The media made it out to be her getting revenge on the old boyfriend because she was a big star now.  Actually they are friends in real life, and she used him to lead into her next song.  The sensationalization of the media makes me ill.  You have to ask yourself why they're showing the clip on the news over and over.....smells like a slow news day to me.

Should she have been on a children's show?.....questionable.  Why didn't the producers of Sesame Street make sure everything was above board right down to her attire?  It's their show after all.  I think she's getting "skewered" by the media.  She really doesn't appeal to that young demographic anyway.  She's more of a teen idol I think.  Little kids probably wouldn't have even recognized her.

Perhaps I'm more modest than some but I don't show that much cleavage, my daughter is not allowed out of the house in anything above her knee and her shirts have to completely cover her growing chest area. That may have been "dressed up" for Katy but it is in appropriate to run around singing to elmo looking like a hooker. Again that's my opinion.

LOL  No honey, I'm pretty modest myself, and dress accordingly.

I don't go around dressed like that myself but I can remember watching Wonder Woman as a kid and I don't think the Sesame Street outfit was any worse than that.                Other Sesame Street scandals: http://www.zimbio.com/Sesame+Street/articles/LU-hseAj1Og/Top+10+Sesame+Street+Scandals

You got a point.  How about what Madonna use to prance around in?

Sheryl I see your point. This is the first time I have seen a picture of wonder woman (outside of seeing costumes on halloween or what not) I wouldn't let my children watch that either. If I don't dress like that and I don't want my children to think it's okay to dress like that, then, why put stuff in front of their eyes that promotes that it is acceptable. I looked at your link for the other Sesame Street scandals, some of them are silly...some of them are legitimate concerns for a childrens' program.

If the program was geared for adults, hey, have her booty butt naked "tickling" elmo, I don't care. I don't have to watch it and as long as it is rated properly then I have no fear of my kids watching it either. But this comes to down to my own personal values and views about what is appropriate.

The pic seemed mild compared to how many present themselves however, when some potential subject of interest looks at you would you rather they see long term potential, or a one night romp?

Sexuality, in my opinion is sacred between committed partners, much as I see ones spirituality as a very sacred and personal relationship between ourselves and Creator. Displaying it just trivializes it.

How can you expect to receive respect for yourself if you have none?
