I was thinking what to do then suddenly got idea to post here for getting some suggestions from u wonderful guys.....


MY problem is I received a call 1 day from THE TIMES News paper and the lady who spoke pestered me a lot asking to take a week free Times new paper, i told her i dont want it, she again again kept telling me, she only want me to enjoy a week free Times, said i dont have to give any CC info, Finally she left me after i accepted............

one fine day i received a bill from Times saying thanks for Subscribing for Times and i OWE $20 for them..... Immediately i called the Times and told i dont want the paper i told the story happened the lady i spoke with told she cancelled it i was happy.............

again 1 more bill from Times asking me to pay i neglected......... my husband told u cant neglect call em and tell u really dont want it.....
i called em and told i cancelled still i get bill i screamed at her i am callign 2nd time and u keep sendin me bill, she said no note abt my first call to cancel... i got really mad and told her to trans me to the sup she refused and convinced me that she is cancellign it, and she did i guess......

today i am back after my workout i c i had received a call from a Collection Agency i have no msgs but with the ph # i received called id shows itz Collection Agency............ i tried to call back no one answering......... had to talk to them t'row morning............

ANY SUGGESTIONS for me FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, i suggest u maybe call a lawyer. something has to be done. they should refund ur whole entire moneys. if this isnt resolved this will reflect negitively on ur credit and u dont want that.

Just hang up on the next person that calls you offering stuff that you do NOT want.  Keep calling the supervisors of that company and tell them that if they do not quit bothering you then you are going to call the consumer affairs reporter for the local TV station and have them do a story on them.

Here in the Los Angeles area they have reporters that love to get ahold of stories like that.


Or, Next time just hang up on them.

Here in TN we have reporters ike that also. All you need to do is call your local News stations and let them know what has happenned. Nine times out of ten you are not the only one this has happenned to. Once the news reports the issue more people will come out of the wood works so to speak and say it happenned or is happenning to them also.

i dont think this will affect credit, they dont even have my name spelt right, they have my address, thatz all no other personal info how this will touch my credit?

that happened to me with a darn magazine company.  I owe 19.97 and never even received the first magazine.  I've called customer service but still receive the bill

I really hate those pressuring telemarketing calls.  Next time say REMOVE ME FROM YOUR LIST~I AM NOT INTERESTED then hang up.  That will stop the calls, I never accept anything from a telemarketer.  They will tell you everything is FREE and say anything just to get more information out of you just to claim their commission.  I don't understand why they still have telemarketers around ~ can't they advertise different ways besides hounding people?

@hemapreethaa - I received a call from some lady at the New York Times Newspaper...saying she'll give me 1 yr of the newspaper for free.....then after that I'd pay $50/month for the newspaper...thats a scam deal!!!!!! I found out it was some literal "hobo" from a pay phone calling because police investigated the phone number, etc and arrested her!  boy was that interesting......and annoying!!

If I understand your story, sounds like you have not paid anything yet, just received a bill for $20.  That they've canceled the subscription you didn't want, and you have not received a single issue?  If that's the case, you legally owe nothing - they provided no product, you owe no money for the service.  So as far as the collection agency goes, I'd just ignore their calls.  Most collection agencies won't do much to pursue a $20 bill - they'll make the call, but they've got bigger fish to go after.

I would consider the suggestions about calling your Attorney General's office to file a complain, and the Better Business Bureau - that way you'll at least have on record your story.

As others have mentioned, most people try to be "nice" and not want to hang up on a telemarketer, but if you get one that's as pushy as the one you described, don't feel bad at all to simply hang up if they won't take no for an answer.  Do make the point to plainly state you want your number removed from their list - as they are legally bound to do so.  If you note that, and you get a call back, the first thing you should say is you already received a call, and asked to be removed from their list, and inquire why they didn't honor that request and called you back - that usually stops them in their tracks and if they are legit, you won't hear from them again.

I've taken the "just don't answer" approach - if it's an 800 number or "unknown" or some business I don't do business with, I simply let the call go to voice mail - that way I don't have to deal with it at all, and eventually they stop calling.

If she gave it you free for a week, she shouldn't have sign you up for the subscription w/out your permission. Did you have to call & cancel? If you weren't told specific instructions on the deal there is no bases in telling you that you've joined. I got a gardening bill after joining some club on the net but I never ordered any gardening mags from them ever. So, I wrote on the bill invoice, return to sender. I did not order any gardening mags from your company. Did you try talking to the head CEO of the company. She must have a boss you know. Also, you could also broadcast the issue on youtube. Billions of people & CEO bosses will see it. Nobody want's to be seen in a negative light especially in the business world.

Send a letter and an e-mail to the Times News Paper.  Therefore, there is a record of the e-mail and/or letter and there is nothing they can do about that, it is evidence.  Record your conversations maybe while you talk to them on the phone etc.  I am sure your extremely annoyed and frustrated, as is usually the case with telemarketers.  You never truly know what transaction just happened until you receive a bill in the mail!  DOn't let your guard down and attack at all costs!  Good luck!
