Flowers Gone Early
« on: September 16, 2010, 07:27:26 am »
I'm not sure if it's because of the brutal heat we've had this summer but the flowers seem to have given up blooming early this year. The petunias dying off early really surprised me since they're as tough as annuals come. I watered well, but no use. Anyone have any insights? Dreading winter...

I agree with you .... I think the extreme heat has been hard on all the plants.  My flowers dried up for the most part and my tomato plants didn't do well this year either.  I love summer and it always makes me very sad when winter arrives.

I agree with you.  not sure but where i am at,  it has been between 90-100 degrees all summer long and it has killed the flowers here much earlier than i remember in the past.

Well, sounds like I'm going to have to get the snow shovel out early this year. YUCK!
God bless you all and be careful out there!!

the trees in my little patch of woods here have been dropping their leaves since the end of July.  definitely not a normal thing.  most of the folks I know that have veggie gardens had terrible experiences this year as well, even with extra TLC and such...here, it's the third hottest summer on record.  I can only imagine what that means for the southern states.  yuck.

I'm surprised that some areas of the country had a hotter than normal summer. Up here in New York State we didn't have that hot of a summer. It was hot in July, but that didn't last long and August was cool. In fact, summer was so early and so short that I think we are in for an early and very long, cold winter.

It has been pretty hotdown here in the south too does not look like the heat wants to leave us just yet either and usually not this hot at this time of year. Not to sure about plants but I know I hae not seen as many flowers this year as past years. Not sure what the winter holds for us yet am scared to think of it.
