Question!!!
« on: September 14, 2010, 04:00:21 pm »
Ok, I don't have a bank account, so can I just take my check to any bank and get it cashed?
If so, will I have to pay a fee?

And also.. do you have to pay to have a bank account?

Thanks so much!

Hello, I believe that if you take it to the bank that Issued it you wont have to pay a fee but that may vary from bank to bank. Also depending on where you live and the banks you have available in your city you might be able to open a bank account with no monthly fee Most banks require a minimum initial deposit of $100.

If you have a credit Union of some kind in or close to your town you can usually start and keep an account for 5 to 10 dollars.

Try a cedit union. They are better than banks and they are member owned. I know most banks and credit unions charge fees if you dont have enough money in the account. Mine charges me $3 if I have less than 300 in the account.

The Credit Union I use does not charge anything I just have to leave $5 in my savings account to keep savings and checking.

You should look at your bank options and call or visit their websites. Also the $100 deposit is a one time thing if they even ask u for it. They might not I am sure there has a to be one that is free to keep also no matter where you bank if you deposit into your account( when you get  one) its free :) but look around and see wats available to you :)

You could also get a savings account, which generally have low fees (or none at all).  They should let you deposit the check, and you can withdraw it afterwards.

First Peoples Community Federal Credit Union

Call this one tomorrow and see what they say. Most credit Unions are not as strict as regular banks are where your money is concerned.

Usually there is a fee.  It can range anywhere from $3-$8 typically.  Walmart charges around $3 I believe.
