Wedding Planning
« on: September 06, 2010, 07:11:19 pm »
So I dread planning my wedding, my fiance doesn't want a wedding but wants the party part - that is the most expensive and pain part anyway - he doesn't understand that at all.  I'm fine with the justice of the peace and a gathering too but I have a feeling his friends will judge me no matter how the party is, yes they aren't true friends if they care about stuff like that I know but he's known them his whole life yada yada yada.  Last year we went to one of their weddings - they spent over $150k, I could've paid off a house, a car etc etc, so again I dread planning it  :-

It seems to me that no matter how you want your wedding to be, it never ends up what you want it to be, and you can't please everyone.  My husband and I rescheduled our wedding so many times because no one was ever pleased with how we wanted things to be.  So, we got tired of it, and went and bought our marriage license and called the Rabbi and got married.  We have been married for over a year now, and we still catch flack over it.  Neither set of parents really wished us a happy anniversary this year, either.  The most important thing, though, is that I got to marry my best friend, and that neither of us wanted to be the center of attention, and we got what we wanted.  Good luck with your wedding planning, and I hope you get more of how you want it rather than less.  :D

OMG no, i spent with everything on my wedding less or around 5k! The money should be spent on the future of the marriage. Money shouldn't be the staple of the beginning of the marriage. We were married on a Carnival cruise line ship, with a lavish buffet, cake, ice sculpture and pictures and we left on a week honeymoon cruise. Well My mom also works for the cruise line and they put in a deal but still without the deal the wedding could easily go under 10k and that's dresses, decorations and all. I didnt have to lift a finger. BEST INVESTMENT YET!

Yea there is no way I am going into debt just to feed people and let them drink on my day lol  My family says they're going to help pay too but I really don't expect it, we're all barely making it as it is, no point in them getting in worse either.

Going to check a few places out with my mom today, we were planning on Dec cause my uncle will be back from Afghanistan and wanted to visit home but it'd be $7k for his whole family! So we're thinking June, not too sure how far out these places will book thou, wish me luck! :wave:

Good luck and happy wishes! Remember: your wedding day is just the first step. People who call it the "most important day of their life" can't have very high expectations for their marriage so focus on the two of you, anyone worth inviting will have a good time no matter how much you spend and they are the ones who will play a leading role in your lives together, the others are just bit-parts that will fall by the wayside!

Irish Blessing May there always be work for your hands to do, May your purse always hold a coin or two, May the sun always shine on your windowpane, May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain, May the hand of a friend always be near you, May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you!

It sounds like there are many other issues going on in this relationship other than planning?? Some insecurities and unhappiness with the way decisions are handled?

I feel your pain and know exactly what you are talking about. My fiancee hates the idea of a large wedding, but definitely wants a big reception after wards. Our date is set for May 2012, but due to the halls being so booked, I have to start looking and book a hall already.  I can't imagine how much that is going to be, and I'm afraid to book that date so far in advanced due to not knowing what will come in the future. We are also going with the J&P also, but will have it on the beach, which comes with another problem, where to have the wedding reception when my family is closer down to home and his family is closer to the beach?

@jneff thank you!

@Angie, they both have promonate(sp) farming families in the area so it was more about showing who has the bigger whodeewho lol

@Sandie, are you married?  If so did your husband make all the decisions for your wedding or did he just say these are things I want now run with it and make the rest of the decisions? It's not unhappiness with how decisions are handled it's that I'm not the girl who had her dream wedding planned since the age of 5 so I'm not planning on becoming a bridezilla now lol

@adg I am so glad I'm not the only one in this boat.  I'm not big on booking that far in advance either, what if the hotel or hall or caterer etc goes out of business - in this economy it's a possibility!  I did put my foot down on location, I don't want my family to have to drive far so I tried for middle ground - best of luck!

yes, it can be stressful, but keep it simple and don't waste money! Most people spend so much of their lives planning their wedding they forget to plan the marriage!

You seriously need to try not to worry about them and just enjoy yourself. I mean, it's YOUR wedding.
