On crime, enforce the death penalty and hard labor for the non killers.

The death penalty is not a deterrent for crime.  There are circumstances where I can say the death penalty is a valid punishment; however, it is more expensive for the government to carry out the death penalty than life imprisonment.  The money should be geared toward education instead of this type of punishment.
How can you say it's not a deterrent? Have you heard of a single death recipient that  ever committed another crime?

i think jail should teach people things and set up education programs so they can actually learn from their crime. rather than a cycle of going in and out of jail or staying for life

Yeah, I was kidding because I didn't think 502mania was really concerned with rope. Loved your reply though, muush88. ;D

Life imprisonment will cost the taxpayers a lot of $ because killers can live in prison for years.

In the county I live in they have started charging a small fee to those who decide they want to "visit". Even though it is a small amount it might help in reducing crowded jails. In the bigger jails across the states the "tennants" actully work which helps to pay there way. Most jails are becoming more and more self sufficent and cost taxpayers less money.

i think jail should teach people things and set up education programs so they can actually learn from their crime. rather than a cycle of going in and out of jail or staying for life

Doing this may or may not help. Here though the taxpayers would be paying more for the unlawful to get educated than it may be worth. Some are up for the help and change their lives but most not so much.

Another option is to get the community to donate "teaching and learning" materials to the jails and see what the imact is.

If you want to say it is a deterrent for repeat offenders who receive that punishment, then I could agree with you on that...however...the threat of the death penalty didn't keep those from committing the crimes in the first place that resulted in them receiving the death penalty...
