ADMIN. ON DELETING THREADS
« on: August 31, 2010, 05:12:01 am »
I always post extra just in case someone deletes a thread with a lot of my posts in it (it's happened).  You need 30 contributory posts a month to get your $3.00 bonus, so if your close to just 30 posts in a month, and someone deletes their thread, then you could lose your $3.00 bonus, because your post count is low.  Those posts are gone forever too......the whole thread is gone.

ADMIN.
You know, that's pretty annoying - an unintended consequence of an initial policy intended to put you in control.  I have now adjusted the forum permissions so that you cannot delete your own thread anymore.  You can still lock it, and you can still delete your own individual posts - but now threads cannot be removed (except by admins).  This should prevent problems with the 30 post requirement.  Thanks for pointing it out!

Thanks Admin.  This will be a relief to all of us on here!

I'm glad to hear this. I was afraid that I would mess up and lose everything.

I'm so glad after the last deletion, where so many people lost posts.  The thread was a long one too.  Maybe now, people won't be so apt to start 5 threads at a time, and then randomly delete them because they don't like what's being posted....that's absurd.

Yeah you can't delete threads but you can still delete your individual posts. You can also lock topics when it starts to get out of control.

Marieelissa, you still can delete YOUR own posts, and you can lock YOUR own topic.  There is no way either of these things make people lose their own posts, and never did.  That never changed.

What HAS changed is you can no longer delete a thread that you started and take every one's posts down with it. That option has been done away with.  Because so many people were losing their posts from you deleting whole threads at a time, caused a lot of disruption.  It wasn't fair for everyone else to lose their time and posting because you didn't like what was posted.

Now....it's out of your hands, and anyone's.  However, I don't know who else ever did it.  This had to change, and Admin. made the call.  They are the monitors of the Forum after all.

I'm still going to watch whose topics I post under. I don't want someone to get into a discussion with me and then delete everything they said. It looks a little silly to other people who wanted to learn from the discussion!

Good change. This was the first forum I have been on that allowed that and I'm on alot of them.
Some don't even allow you to delete or even edit your post....makes it good so they really have to put some thought into their post before they submit.

Well, I like that we can edit our posts and even delete them. A person with integrity wouldn't delete their individual posts after someone has already commented on it. I have gone back and read my post and realized glaring grammar and spelling mistakes and went back to fix them. Also I have posted something and immediately deleted it because I had changed my mind. Once someone has posted after my comment I won't delete it no matter how much I regret posting it.

But that is an individuals right. But it should never have a persons right to delete OTHER people's posts. I'm glad Admin fixed this.

That's not really a problem if you quoted them in your post they can't delete that :)
