Why was the "why do christians hate atheists" thread locked?

just wondering...obviously a thread with that title is going to stir up controversy, so why lock it once the debate begins?

The thread was locked by the person who started it Mackenzie.  It got to the point where some people didn't like how it was going, so she locked it.  If you start a thread, you have the power to delete it, or lock it.  Unfortunately if you post in it, and the person deletes it, then you lose all your "posts" in that thread, and your count goes down.  Locking it just blocks anyone from posting in it anymore.

I always post extra just in case someone deletes a thread with a lot of my posts in it (it's happened).  You need 30 contributory posts a month to get your $3.00 bonus, so if your close to just 30 posts in a month, and someone deletes their thread, then you could lose your $3.00 bonus, because your post count is low.  Those posts are gone forever too......the whole thread is gone.

You can go and read the posts in a locked thread,  you just can't post to it anymore.

Hey, we need to talk on another venue.  Have you found me yet on FB?

Ah I gotcha, just seems odd to me...with a title like that it seems obvious it was going to get a bit hostile on that thread haha. Not yet I will have to try again, I finally got everything in its place in my dorm and have class at 11 tomorrow, oops haha. I have got to get my sleep schedule back to normal after this first day! Do you have myspace or just facebook?

No, only FB.  Key in my first name in the finder, and I'm the one sitting on a church pew with a baby on my lap all dressed in Pink (the baby, not me...lol).  There aren't that many Annella's on there.  Others here have found me without that much info......lol  I guess the church pew gave me away.  After you find me I'll give you other personal Info (email, etc.,).  I'll have to confirm a friend request for you.  Have a good day at class.

I just want to respond to two people who didn't get addressed before the thread was locked:

Sherna said: <<The reason some Christians are coming out and saying they won't be doormats is because, (I think) there is been too much Christian bashing going on.>>

I try to just bash the religion, not specific people.

<<Threads get started with the sole purpose of saying how horrible and stupid Christians are.>>

This is a feelings-based, incorrect assessment.  Again, it's about pointing out the flaws in the religion overall rather than saying, "You're stupid."

<<Queen started a post about (Logical reasons against God or something like that) a thread meant to bash the Christian God and the delusional people who believe in Him.>>

No...it's purpose was sharing a very good article that points out how the Christian god can't logically exist.  No bashing, just trying to help some people see some points that are easily overlooked.

<<Where are the threads saying Atheists are delusional.....>>

Because we're not...

<<rid the world of atheism before it destroys the nation...>>

Actually, this seems to be a popular sentiment.  Maybe not against atheism specifically, but definitely secularism.  I've taken a lot of university-level surveys lately that say things like, "We need to get our nation back to the morals we were founded on.  Agree/Disagree?"  Disagree!

<<Everyone keeps saying, "hey Christians, stop trying to convert people, let people believe what they want and leave them alone" and then they go and start threads about why people shouldn't believe in God. Is this being hypocritical or isn't it?>>

I've never said don't try to convert.  :P  I know it's a god-given obligation!

Walksalone said: <<Falconer.....Queen......what gives here?
Why do some believers receive your wrath while others like myself have not?>>

All I know is you believe in a Creator, but you're not trying to insert your beliefs into areas they don't belong, like in school or science or our laws.    I don't really know anything about your beliefs, except that they seem a lot more peaceful than The Big Two (Christianity and Islam).  Anyone who keeps their belief in god in general mostly to themselves and agrees that the defined gods are bat-*bleep* gets a passing grade from me!
"It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

I started the thread and will tell you why I locked it. Personal attacks against my husband from no other Marie, so I ignored her and locked the thread. Yes the debate was great to see every ones opinion UNTIL you personally attack and bring in someones family. And just as Annella stated you can go back and read over it and see how it spiraled out of control, way off the topic.

Christians aren't delusional, yet posts are continually made that say so. Where are the atheist bashing threads?? There aren't any (unless you want to count marie's which I don't because she doesn't know what she is or what she believes). That was my point. And you don't just bash the religion, when you insinuate that to believe in the bible you have to have psychological issues...you call religious people "non thinkers" you are insulting the people not the religion.

Are you slow? Annella spoke of your husband, all I did was laugh! Why are you going to accuse me of something I didn't do?

Marieelissa, it was my mistake that I thought she said her husband had passed.  It was another forum member that I got mixed up with AmyTrivitt, someone named Tanttrica or something like that.  I have a problem with transposing letters sometines (dyslexia?).  I thought she had mentioned her husband had passed.  He had not, and I apologized for the mixup.  Now.......what happened between you and AmyTrivitt.....well, I don't know.  The thread is locked, and since she started it, she can lock it anytime she wants.  Just like you can lock or delete your threads you start anytime you want.

You know, that's pretty annoying - an unintended consequence of an initial policy intended to put you in control.  I have now adjusted the forum permissions so that you cannot delete your own thread anymore.  You can still lock it, and you can still delete your own individual posts - but now threads cannot be removed (except by admins).  This should prevent problems with the 30 post requirement.  Thanks for pointing it out!

Thank you so much Admin.  It's really a headache in a long thread, if you have a lot of posts in it, and then the one who started it gets mad or something, and decides to delete the whole thing.  Pffftttt....GONE!!

Everybody will be relieved to hear of this!!

Amy, did you see where Admin. changed the policy about deleting threads?  No one can no longer delete threads.  Even if it's their own.  No one will ever lose their posts again.  You can still lock it, but that's about it.
