In reregards to "SurveyMack10's" quote:  Spot on correct.  Never intended to prove God, just that everyone said they thought of Him as we were going down. :)

"There's no athiests in the fox holes".

This is B.S.  I know MANY atheists in the military, including ones who've been to Iraq.

As for Mickey's plane, this does not prove god whatsoever.  Plenty of planes have crashed with survivors.

There was no need for your hateful response. She was simply throwing in a quote from WWII because it fit in the the story being told...notice the quotation marks. It doesn't mean she herself was claiming there is literally no atheist in the military, that would be ludicrous. It just means she found a time to goodheartedly enter something she'd heard in the conversation and didn't deserve a rude response.

Also, Mickey never claimed that it PROVED God. He was telling a story about knowing an atheist who faced a near-death situation, survived, and came out of it a changed man who believed in God. Get it?

Mickey001 things can get heated around here....lol  Actually, the saying (about the foxholes) came from around the Korean war, of which my uncle and dad were soldiers in it (Army).   I've heard a few older vets make reference to it.

Are you going back to Iraq?  My son was in the Air Force during "Desert Storm".  He had just gone through boot, when he got orders to go.  It was basically over before it began......nothing like Iraq.

I do not know many atheists, but I do know one who changed his mind in a heart-beat.  He was always talking the way you do and people just kind of gave up on him.  We knew a situation would come along that would change his mind sooner or later.  By the way, it happened sooner than later.

As a Commander in Iraq, I had my own helicopter at my disposal.  Quite frequently, I used it to visit my soldiers in the heat of battle.  Everytime I boarded the helicopter, I knew I had a pretty good chance of getting shot down.  On one visit, I needed this Airborne trooper because of his expertise in small arms repairs.  One of my units had three machineguns that were in-operable because of broken parts.  I needed the soldier to fix the weapons and he had the parts to get the job done.

Three quarters of the way to the landing zone, we were hit by numerous small arms fire.  Bullets were flying around in the cockpit and in the passenger area.  All of a sudden, we were spinning rapidly downward towards the ground.  I got my bearing for a few moments, saw the cockpit all smoked in, and knew we were getting ready to crash land.  Everyone was screaming except the two pilots and myself.  The pilots were focused on the landing and I was focused on God.  I said all of my good-byes, and thanked the good Lord for a wonder life and family and waited for impact.

We did crash land.  No one was injured too badly.  The pilots had done their jobs and save our lives.  Once off the bird, I asked all of them what was going through their minds.  Each and everyone of them said, "GOD".

This is probably a really random question, but I figure the worst that can happen is you'll say no, and I'd be in the same situation I'm currently in.  :D

My father in law was a marine and I am trying to hunt down some info.  I would like to find out what unit he was in, see if I can find anything on who he served with, and etc. as a surprise for him.  His birthday is next week, and my husband and I want to surprise him...see if we can get some birthday cards and any pictures they may have.  Like I said, long shot...but who better to ask that someone who has served (even if it isn't the same branch).  Thanks!

See my point came across not everyone needs your help. Thank you so much for seeing that. Now remember that when you open your mouth so loudly to those who do not ASK for it.
In Ms. Christian's defense, Amy, she has to speak loudly....you know....from way up there and all.
I am really disappointed to read how sarcastic and immature some people can get.  This post was taken seriously by several in here, only to be told it was only aimed at someone else (so it could provoke and goad one person in particular.)  Your "testimony" sure wouldn't win me over to your way if that's how you act.

So I forgot to put in the words "now in".........

Correction:  It was basically over before it began......nothing like now in Iraq.  I was working for DIS (Defense Investigative Service) for DoD, on Elmendorf Air Force Base in Alaska at the time, so I think I remember where Desert Storm was.

As it should have (been taken serious)!!! And I never once claimed to be trying to get people to not belief or as you put "win you over". I do not know were you my dear got that from. But I see your religion is about winning and losing, do you keep a tally sheet?

It amazes me that you ALMOST said something sincere, yet still had to add something hateful. Someone said to you I am NOT judging you, I am NOT forcing my religion on you, I respect you right to accept or reject my God, yet you still felt the need to insult her. What is more, you DID ask for it by posting this thread on a forum open to all. Not only did you post this thread, but you posted it with a title that would draw in Christians. Not only did you post that title, but you did it PURPOSELY to stir up this argument. The sad this is that unlike others on this thread, you don't want to "debate and discuss" anything, you simply want to talk down to Christians and mock their belief system. Even when a Christian openly says to you that you have a right to be atheist and that she respects that-- you feel the need to degrade her. Unbelievable to me, just as my God is unbelievable to you.

Where exactly did she open her mouth LOUDLY?

Annella was responding to a thread that asked the question, why do christians hate atheists. She responded directly to loulizlee, and you butted in to call her ignorant. You posted the thread, so you did ASK a question! Annella answered it. Get over yourself honey.
Read all the thread before talking to me. Yes I did ask the question and in the end my point was very clear. So thank you for your input but as I said my point was made.

I'd like to know in your words what point you were trying to get across on this thread.

I totally "disagree"  the quote "if you don't believe in Jesus, you will burn in hell!"

You can disagree with it, but it won't change what the Bible says.  ;)

Quote
Jesus/God are forgiving.  He or whom ever you beleive in should recognize we are humans and we make mistakes.

Mushy, "free-for-all" believer!  My favorite!  (sarcasm)

Sorry if that sounds mean, but crafting your own god to suit your individual needs/wants doesn't make him any more real.

In no way is that crafting a God. The essence of a Christian God is that he recognizes that we sin, since the say the forbidden apple was eaten. He gave his sons life for our sins, recognizing that AS HUMANS we will sin. I don't understand how you, an atheist, can preach to a Christian about their own God?

Sorry if I've repeated some of the arguments already made but I get ahead of myself and respond before I have time to go back and read the 50 posts already made in response haha...

It would be nice to be able to have an actual debate without people feeling the need to insult one another or their beliefs, but it didn't take much to realize that most (definitely not all) but most people on this thread had that one intention. Watching people put others down via the internet makes me thankful for my God and his forgiveness.
There has to be a bit more to it then simply people wanting to hate on other people. I rarely catch chit from the Christians or the Atheist/Agnostics.

I wonder why that might be?

chit?
