Tried to Cash Check - Denied
« on: July 26, 2010, 10:31:12 pm »
My bank won't cash my check because it has a August 20, 2010 date on it.  What?????  I cashed out June 26th, and it said that my check would come on or before the 20th of July.  Okay, since I opted for a paper check, it came today - July 26th, but with a August 20th date in big numbers up above the amount.  My bank told me I could not cash it until then.

Kind of a bummer to not be able to cash my check until almost 2 months after I cash out?  Is this common?  This is my first cashout. :dontknow:

I also received a post dated check.  Glad I saw your post or I would have cashed it tomorrow.  Have you heard anything from FC about this.?  Seems very funny that we got no message about it since they must know by now, assuming it wasn't intentional.    I hope it is good in August!

Check your income page.  I got a $2 error bonus because my check was dated for August 20th instead of July 20th.  the checks are good, and you can cash it in August.  Just a little glitch.

They can do that every month, it's the easiest $2 I made all week.

Kind of a bummer to not be able to cash my check until almost 2 months after I cash out?  Is this common?  This is my first cashout. :dontknow:

First of all....your bank is a teeny bit behind the times because banks no longer "honor" the old practice of post dating.  That only worked back in the day when a real person would process incoming checks by hand.  That was back when it took a check 7 - 10 days to 'clear" and be posted to your account.  Now-a-days...check processing is all done electronically.  No one needs to even manually scan the items to be processed because machines can handle bulk processing (like the post office's mail sorters) and is why a check will clear overnight.

About 6 months ago I was a tad behind paying my phone bill and the phone company called me and informed me of the date they were going to shut me off....which happened to be 9 days before my pay day and I was broke.  I finally...after all my begging and pleading  ::) :angel11: :crybaby2: :angel11: failed...made a deal with the rep.  I told her I would send a check and put attn and her name on the envelope.  That way she could show having received it in time to prevent the disconnect and, since it would take it a few days to go through the mail, it would give me a few more days to hustle up the money somehow.  She agreed but she told me to post date the check to my payday to "guarantee" it wouldn't get processed to soon.  I did just that and sent the check off.   Since Murphy (Murphy's Law) has super glued to my *bleep* ever since one of my Irish ancestors pissed on a Blarney stone and tried to steal a Leprechaun's gold... ;)...the check only took a day and a half to get to its destination and...much to my chagrin...was processed (the morning of the 3rd day after I had mailed it).  Consequently it didn't clear.  I learned about the bouncing paper the following day and I told the teller that someone screwed up because I had post dated it 10 days in the future.  That's when she told me that post dating doesn't work because the banks don't pay attention to that.  They figure that...since it is a crime in most states now to knowingly write an NSF check...when someone writes a check their signature is a written guarantee of the funds being available.  If there aren't any funds...shouldn't be writing checks.  Proof of the validity of that information came to light when a lady I had done some babysitting for during the school year wrote me a check, post dated it 5 days and asked me not to take it to the bank until then.  However I was broke so I took it to her bank on my way home and it was cashed without question.

Well, I wish you could have been there to set them straight, because the teller at (I'll just use the initials...WF...which is an international bank), told me it could not be cashed because of the August 20th date on it. There are others on other threads that had the same trouble.  So if I deposited it through the ATM (instead of trying to cash it), it will go through?  It's worth a try I guess :dontknow:

BTW, if someone post dated me a check. and asked me not to cash it, and I told them I wouldn't, then turned around and did so.... :o   Not only is my word no good, I could end up costing them an overdraft charge.  However, that's me!
