SHUTTER ISLAND...im confused

I know this movie has been out for a lil bit, but I just saw it and after the end i'm still confused as to whether he was really crazy or not?? i guess i'm just so ready to try and be pulled in and duped by the story line that i have now lost sight of a bigger picture?? lol i dunno

has anyone else seen this and been confused?  :-

He was really crazy, but at the very end he was just pretending to be crazy again so that they would kill him. After he realized that he killed his wife, he decided that he wanted to die, hence the comment that he made to the psychiatrist.

Wow, how about a spoiler alert on some of those post.   however, I saw this movie already, and I agree he was crazy.

I think the movie leaves the end up to you to decide.  My husband thought he was crazy but I on the other hand didn't see it that way.  I believed he was the sane one.  does that make me crazy hehehehe ?

I think you've got it right, although if you miss that comment he made, you'd think he just relapsed into his insanity. I wonder if the psychiatrist realized he was going to be a Kevorkian for his patient...

I saw shutter Island awesome movie and no I was not confused..He was crazy his wife killed his kids and he killed her..I love the twists of this movie!!!

That movie freaked me out a little...but yes, I believe that he was crazy...he couldn't handle the fact of losing his whole family in one day and then killing his wife. Such a sad story and too scary in a creepy kind of way...I have a hard time watching these kind of movies. Had a dream about it after I watched it.

well it makes more sense now. i did hear the comment he made to the psychiatrist but at this point i was still waiting for another twist (you know like after he walks away the psychiatrist makes a phone call saying, this is chuck, we got him lol) and i sort of dismissed it.

but yes now it all makes sense!!

i agree. i think it was obvious at the end, where he was sitting
on the steps talking to his "partner", that he was only pretending.
the acting was a little forced, very different from the rest of the
character's actions/body language. he decided he didn't want to
live with himself after realizing who he really was, i think...

I rented the movie twice but fell asleep,(maybe i was confused, dont know but my eyes were definately closed.)  now after reading this i am going to have to rent it again so that i can see what is going on.

Didnt see it yet maybe I'll watch it on DVD or cable the adds for the film sure made it seem interesting but it looks like one of those mystery films that will leave me wondering what happened
