I would have hung up and called back and asked not to be placed on hold again and explained what had just happened.  If they give me a hard time or put me hold again I would have just called another Dr. and just leave them hanging.   :-X

Not rude at all. In fact the business would only have the message prompt for 1 of two reasons.

a) they are not properly staffed to handle incoming calls and that is their method of dealing with that. They are a doctor and really do not need to market themselves as much as they think they do.

b) or they really care about the way they do business and REALLY do want your opinion! Now being someone that gets paid to take surveys we can hope any business with a message prompt during business hours is doing so for reason 'b'
