I have to admit that I think many times people are not aware of domestic violence.  I know from experience that it is something that a person tries very hard to hide.  I was abused for many years but everyone around me had no idea because I was good at hiding it.  I was made to feel like I was not impotant and that noone would ever believe me, that no one would ever want to be around me and so I thought it was true.  But things have changed and I no longer believe that and am no longer with the person who did this to me.

I do not understand why it says that many American males are unaware?  It should read people, instead.  I am sure that there is a larger percentage of males being the abusers, but females are also abusive.
