"In my recent travels and political and community work and speeches around the country, it became so very obvious that many American males are unaware of the monumental problem of domestic violence in our nation."

Horrible stories. Sad but true happens all the time. Alot of people are not unaware they just turn their backs, thats my thought.

Turning ones back is about the same as committing the act themselves. There should be zero tolerance towards these cowardly acts as well.

I know I'm going to stir a hornets nest of debate and probably look like an *bleep*, but that woman who got slugged in the face by the cop did have it coming. I completely understand you should not hit women in almost all circumstances, but you do not assault a police officer verbally or physically (unless the cop is clearly going nuts) which is what she is clearly doing. It's common sense because, like the article stated, they escalated the situation over something as simple as jaywalking. More people got involved and this could have spawned a riot and a lot more people would have been hurt.

But that aside, I've seen other videos of cops and security guards going postal for stupid reasons. I get pissed off at it all the time. But a lot of them get fired and even jail time once the reports are concluded. The problem with these situations is you never know the entire story if you've suddenly been thrown into it. Read the full article and don't just watch the video.

Very few things are worse than standing around when someone is being abused horribly. But most of us have seen it-- I saw it a lot in highschool. Understand that the best method is to act like a leader. Break the awkward feeling, point to a few random people in the crowd to get their attention, and tell them to hold one side off from the other.

This was so apalling to watch! Really incredible! The punch was obviously from an out of control rage...not professional and absolutely inexcusible! Aside from it being a woman being punched, an officer of the law should have more control over his impulses and restraining her could have been done without punching.

I agree that the woman was out of control and there was no way she was not going to be put into custody no matter what it took, however, I know that LEO's are trained in restringing techniques that do not include punching a woman in the face, it could have been handled differently, not necessarily less aggressively.

My point about having a zero tolerance attitude toward any kinds of abuse is that we should make it very well known that we will not look the other way, we will not stand by and allow the abuse to continue. We should report all cases, testify if need be and absolutely shun anyone who is abusive.

We should NOT fight abuse with abuse, however, we should do any thing and everything else possible to end abuse any where it crops up.

Once people are fully aware that there will be definite consequences for their actions, every time, most (not all) of this foolishness will be avoided.

There are plenty of people I would like to punch, but the jail time isn't worth it.

Everyone, at one time or another, share that exact emotion, restraint is a very mature and honorable virtue, that we are all capable of.

I saw a sign up in the Hospital waiting room that said "Domestic Violence... A Crime of Silence"

I thought, "Maybe he's not hitting her hard enough"
