It is sad.  And it was avoidable.  The exact reason we should stop off shore drilling.

Very sad the oil was allowed to reach land when it could have been contained shortly after the accident happened. I'm not one for government to solve all problems, but they needed to step in before it reached land. All they did was turn away help and now it's seeping into the marshland and destroying the coastline. Pathetic and all this administration can do is browbeat BP and have committees and not working on the problem.

well perhaps at least we can learn something from this and be better prepared for future incidents...
a shame it takes something like this though...

First of all, I'd like to say that I didn't vote for Obama.  He's like a little puppet in all of this.  They arn't doing anything because they are trying to make the US economy go down on purpose so the whole country is equal.  They openly admit they want us all to  have one currency.  Our money isn't worth *bleep* in any other country anymore.  Why do people try to control us, why can't they let us be?

Its beginning to hit down here on the coast pretty hard.  We are starting to see it on the orange boones out there.  I don't think the government is doing enough to get this under controll.  They could lift the red tape and the stupid laws by the union and we could get much needed help from New Mexico, and a few others that have offered to help.  But the union want let them.  This is not the time to be falling on those types of tactics.  BP will not listen to others that have the possible ways to stop the leak either just pushes them to the side.  Its a mess and the government doesn't care.  I'm not saying its the governments fault but they aren't trying to help it either.

Neither BP or he government has done nearly enough to stop this or contain it. The only thing they really care about is how they will ultimately get the consumer to pay for it. If they really cared they would have never been using the cheap parts they were using in the first place and would have had a plan in place as to how to react if something like this happened. It seems like their only concern now is how to contain the cost and get back to business as usual.

Every person that supports petroleum/oil based products is to blame.

If there wasn't a demand there wouldn't be spills  :BangHead:

This is why we should have never started off shore drilling.  It is sicking how greedy people can be and it also shows why other methods of powering things are so important.

Who cares about the oil affecting people, as long as their not dying or at risk of dying. How about the thousands of helpless animals covererd in oil and dying.

The people are the ones you should be caring about! It's their livelyhood as well.
To hell with the helpless pelicans and other animals covered in oil and dying! There are so many pelicans and animals a few dying won't make that much difference, at least you won't miss them anyway! In a few years they will have been replaced by their offspring, and you will hardly remmember the oil mishap. Life goes on regardless what happens. We just have to make the most out of our experiences and carry on!

It seems that nothing was learned after Valdez. It is pretty scary to think that these drilling operations can be set up with all of the intricacies, but there is really no plan for "what happens if..". We do not yet have a good alternative for oil, it moves too many things- planes, cars, etc. Until we do, we're in danger of this happening again. Yes, we should be concerned with people's livelihoods, but if you do not have a bit of concern for the affected wildlife then you have bigger issues within yourself.
