I'm not sure what the solution is but i'm sure the answer is probably a real simple one that they are over looking.  With all the technology we have today I can't believe they haven't come up with something yet.

I would not cap it because it can't be done! I would have a huge concrete funnel made similar to a transmission funnel for automobiles. Then attach a discharge hose at the small end of the funnel to discharge the oil and gas to a oil & water seperator onboard a tanker on the surface.
I would then lower the concrete funnel wide end first down over the blown out well.
The oil and gas that is spewing out would then go up the funnel into the hose on it's way to the oil tanker. This may not be a permenent solution, but it would stop the flow of oil into the Gulf. It would buy them more time and to concentrate on the oil clean up from the damage allready done.

if they can cap it why cant they just run pipe til they can control it?  any way how about hair and grease lol  that always clogs up my pipes.

Oh, lol, that is so true!  And yes, Martin, it truly is a small world really.  Several of my PS friends on here, probably more than I know.

Obama's chances at being elected for a second term.  Those are quickly running down the drain anyway.
