What is a good allowance for a 16 year old?

Wow at that age I had to get a job. Well if I wanted any money for the weekends. My oldest daughter is 8 and she gets $5.00 a week and thats if and only if she does all of her chores. Im sorry for being so blunt but $50.00 a week. Your in for a world of trouble! The best advice ever given to me and I know for a fact now that im older its the best advice, is unless you earn it yourself (money, car, clothes, ect.) you will not appriacate it. And its true when you earn your own money on your own you do tend to be more aware of the cost of life and not be so selfless when it comes to money.

At least 20 dollars a month would be a good allowance for a 16 year old.

If you think about it, you're actually giving your daughter $200 a month. That is just a little less then my car payments. If you feel you daughter works hard enough for it then by all means give it to her. But it does sound like a lot to me. I would think that $20 a week  would be good. She also had a job which is good as well. But $50 a week sounds like a bit much. I had a job at that age and my parents always asked me for money. They stopped giving me an allowance when I was 10 I think, back then they would give me $5. I saved up and bought this barbie doll with roller blades that spark up when you run them across the ground.

I think that's a it much but i guess it depends on where you live and what it's for.  If it's just for food then I think $50 is too much but if it's also for gas/transportation than yeah $50 is about what I would do.

wow...50 dollars is a lot 4 a 16 year old. but u r the parent n if u think that she works hard enough 4 it then she deserves it.

My 17 year old does nothing to earn an allowance.  Therefore he does not get one.

I never got a allowance when i was young...my parents bought me things i wanted and bought me lunch! I think 10 a week would be enough

Just because she has a job does not mean that she is working. A lot of my friends have part time jobs and are lucky if they get to work four days a week. You also have to take in account on what she's spending that money on. If it's just for luxuries like shoes, make-up, games, movies, etc. you might want to cut it back. But if it's for things like gas money and food $50 sounds fair. Also she's 16 which means that things like class rings and Prom are coming up. If she's the one that's going to be paying for those things she is going to need to start saving every penny that she gets.

Holy...$50 a week? I'm 16 and my allowance for 4+ chores a week was $5. That was until I got two part-time jobs, along with my school and volunteering. I'd say I work hard and I don't even get anything.

Unless she's doing EVERY household task that you and your husband could possibly fathom, to the point where after work you can just lay around all day, I wouldn't give her squat.
