At what age did you start working?

Hello everyone, SOme of you already know that I have 2 teen girls. well the both want to get jobs and I don't know if i'm ok with that. How old were you and if you have older kids or teens how old were they when they started working and what advice can you give me to feel a little better about this I still see them as my babies  and don't want to let them go. I mean I know i have to and I know I will just want to get some input lol 

I started working around 8 years old. There were several personal things that I wanted and because my mother, who was a very good provider as a single parent, could not afford to make my wish list happened.  However, I remember the excitement I experienced in my childhood lawn care business, working as a golf caddy, and as a newspaper boy. I truly enjoyed making my own money and learning people skills as well as business skills that I would later on in life refined those skills to pursue related careers as an adult.

I was aloud to baby sit when I was 12.

When I was a senior in high school, we had a DCT program where we could work half a day and go to school half a day.  I was 17.  I graduated in 1969.

I starting working on my 14th birthday at McDonalds then two months later I started a second job at Wendys. It was great. Always had money.

I started to work as early as 13yr. old because I want to help my family. I learned a lot and able to help my sister on their allowance. I thank God for what I am now.

  I started working at the age of 11 years old. I had an uncle who was a cotten farmer here in Alabama. I worked for him during the summer, hoeing cotten. I also had another uncle who raised cantloupes and watermelons. I worked for him also after the cotton fields were ready to harvest. I did this for 2 summers until I got a job at our local Dari-Delite as a waitress. Back when I was growing uo there wasn't any labor laws and my father although a very hard worker some-times had a difficult time making ends meet. So, if I wanted clothes for school or wanted to participate in any after school activities such as band or basket-ball; I had to come up with the money. I am thankful for that experience. It has made me very appreciative of what I now have.

I was a car  hop at the age of 14 when I started, needless to say I was limited to 12 hours a wwek at that age, but was able to have that jobe for several summers, I loved it, met great people, and even some cute guys!,, Wow, but that was many many many years ago.

I had a paper route, mowed lawns, bailed hay and walked beans... startin the age of 13!

My first "real" job (not babysitting!) was when I was 17 and I worked at Best Buy in the media department- movies, video games etc. It was great! I think it's important for teens to work a bit before going off to school. It can make choosing a career path easier instead of just going straight to school with no clear goals in mind.

I started working at 13.  I was so happy to be making money. I worked in a small store stocking and cleaning.  I did not get a check, the owner paid me cash every week.  A small job will start you in the right direction to be independent.  Today you can get a great pt job anywhere.

I started babysitting at age 11 and then got a part time job as a pizza maker when I was 16.
