Ok, so Im a stay at home mom mostly........I work part-time outside of the home, but my employer won't provide me with health insurance because I work under 40 hours a week. My husband works as a machinist and his company is small so they can get away with only paying for his health insurance and not his familys. ANYWAY! I went out and got individual health insurance for myself and my daughter from Anthem Blue Cross, but its ridiculus how much we have to pay per month for our premium--$600 a month!! And thats with a $500 deductible per person before they cover anything! Every single insurance company I apply for insurance with, digs and digs into my past (I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant-BUT I had my tubes tied after so I cant get pregnant again anyways so I will never have gestational diabetes again--but that doesnt matter to the insurance companies) and comes up with reasons for either denying me insurance, or accepting me but putting exclusions on my policy and raising the monthly premium beyond belief! So.......my question is this....does anyone know of any companies that offer their part-time employees health benefits?? I know that there are companies out there that do, I just cant find them. OR if anyone has any other suggestion for me, I would greatly appreciate it. I dont want to go back to work full-time at this point....my daughter is still young and I want to enjoy her and be home with her as much as I can!!
Thanks in advance for any advice!
i'm not sure what state your in. but yes like i read check into state funds... i know in pa. if you go tru the walfare office.. or CHIP all children no matter how much you make. get insurenace untill they turn 21. and it covers everything. as far as the alduts they have things also. but depending on what you make you may have to pay monthly also.. btu i know it's alotttt cheaper then what you are paying now. no matter your health history
here is what the great state of ohio has to offer us:
For families between 151% - 200% of the federal poverty level (FPL)

Cannot have health insurance. Health insurance is defined as having health insurance that covers BOTH inpatient hospitalization and physician coverage - regardless of premiums, deductible and co-payments.
Must reapply every 12 months - income changes may affect eligibility status.
Family Size Annual Income
1 $17,960
2 $24,240
3 $30,520 ---husband makes more than that-but has child support taken out every week
4 $36,800
5 $43,080
For families up to 150% FPL
Available to children up to age 19 and pregnant women
Health insurance from another carrier does NOT affect eligibility
Pregnant women are eligible during the entire pregnancy up to 60 days after the baby is born.
Babies born to a mother on Healthy Start are automatically eligible for free health coverage for 1 full year.
Must reapply for coverage every 12 months - income changes may affect eligibility status.
Family Size Annual Income
1 $13,470
2 $18,180
3 $22,890 ---husband makes more than that (but again, he pays child support)
4 $27,600
5 $32,310
What the great state of Ohio doesnt take into consideration is that people have mortgages ($800 a month), property taxes, ($3600 a year) monthly utility bills, weekly child support, various insurances (house, car) food, children that live with us to support, etc......all of which a $35,000 a year job cant even pay for. So according to them--we are rich and undeserving of health insurance coverage.
